High Potential season 2 premieres in just a matter of weeks, bringing the highly anticipated return of the crime drama after its breakout first season. If you're keeping up with the latest television news headlines, then one of the stars' recent moves might have you worried about what's in store for the cast in the second season. Should fans actually be worried about a beloved character?
Of course, we're talking about High Potential star Judy Reyes, who plays Lieutenant Selena Soto in the series and was just officially confirmed to reprise her role in the upcoming Scrubs reboot series on ABC. Naturally, fans could possibly take Reyes' new role to mean that she's stepping away from High Potential or will be featured in season 2 a bit less. Thankfully, that's not the case.
According to Deadline, reprising her role as Carla Espinosa in the new edition of Scrubs will not impact her series regular role on High Potential. The outlet reports that "special arrangements" were made to work around the actress' schedule. Even though the shows hail from different production companies, airing on the same network surely helps and makes Reyes pulling double duty possible.

Scrubs reboot won't take away from Judy Reyes' role on High Potential
Reyes was one of the last remaining puzzle pieces to put into place for the Scrubs reboot, which also marks the returns of Zach Braff as John Dorian, Donald Faison as Christopher Turk, and Sarah Chalke as Elliot Reid. The new series, which has been held for a midseason premiere on ABC, will find JD and Turk reuniting at Sacred Heart once again and discovering how medicine has changed.
There's still a lot that's left to be discovered about Scrubs 2.0, including what the final title will be, and one of those things will be what Carla's up to. Reyes played Carla, the head nurse at Sacred Heart, for the first eight seasons and didn't appear in the revamped final season. Carla and Turk married and had two children. She became a stay-at-home mom, and that was why she wasn't in season 9.
Carla hasn't been confirmed to be scrubbing in with her old pals just yet, as Reyes won't be a series regular in the reboot. She has been given a "special recurring guest star" credit, which basically means she won't be in every episodes but will be a major focus of the episodes she does appear in. Whether that's at the hospital or at home, we can't wait to see Carla back again!
As for what's in store for Reyes' other character, Lieutenant Soto, she will definition remain a permanent fixture in season 2. High Potential season 2 began filming back in late May 2025, far in advance of other broadcast series. (Kaitlin Olson also has a busy schedule to accommodate!) That means by September, a decent amount of season 2 episodes have been filmed.
The follow-up season will contain more episodes than season 1's 13, which mean the cast and crew could be filming longer than last season and possibly overlap with Scrubs' production schedule. However, Reyes' availability has already been factored into both shows. No matter if High Potential season 2 and Scrubs have conflicting schedules, Reyes won't be missing for a significant chunk of the crime drama. Soto and Carla will both be back in action!
High Potential season 2 premieres Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 10 p.m. ET on ABC.
