The Brilliant Minds season 2 cast continues to grow. The latest involves a Scandal vet, and she will end up connected to Oliver Wolf’s storyline in a way.

Bellamy Young is the latest addition to the NBC medical drama, well known for her roles in Scandal, Prodigal Son, and Criminal Minds. TVLine notes that she will recur rather than being added as a series regular, and that it will be a chance for Young and Teddy Sears to reunite after their run on A Waltons Thanksgiving.

Young will recur as Dr. Amelia Fredrick, who is a clinical director for Hudson Oaks. This facility is described as a long-term mental health facility, so it would suggest that she will be involved in the storyline that involves Oliver’s father, who Oliver believed to be dead. That was what his mom told him based on the request of his father.

The end of Brilliant Minds season 1 saw Oliver learn the truth, and he ended things abruptly with Sears’ Josh Nichols by running away from the situation and meeting with his father in a diner. It’s likely that his father isn’t ready for life outside after being sent to a mental health facility following the events of leaving a teenage Oliver in the woods.

However, things aren’t going to be easy between Amelia and Oliver, as she is said to be a “worthy adversary” for Zachary Quinto’s character. Oliver sees through the person and symptoms to figure out what the condition actually is, and he likely wants Amelia to do the same. As she’s working in mental health and trying to destigmatize it, she likely does see through the symptoms, but not in the way Oliver would like.

There’s also a chance that she’ll end up trying to work with Oliver on his own conditions. After all, he runs away from a lot of problems, and that’s what he did at the end of season 1.

Based on the description, Amelia is interested in looking past the condition. She wants to set her patients up for a strong future, which could lead to her being linked to Oliver’s father.

She hasn’t been jaded by her years working in mental health or even in medicine as a whole, in the way that many other doctors have. She is still passionate about her work, and that’s what will become so exciting. Maybe she could teach the interns a few extra tricks, much to the dislike of Oliver!

Brilliant Minds airs on Mondays at 10/9c on NBC in September 2025.
