Could The Simpsons induct another music legend in one of its upcoming episodes? That's the hope for hard rocker Alice Cooper, who has been a longtime fan of the FOX animated comedy, and like the majority of us, desires to be connected to it in some way. In Cooper's hope, he wants to be a guest star, perhaps as himself or some other fabulous character the writers come up with.
I can totally see that for him, as Cooper has been around since the 1970s, and dropped a little song called "School's Out (For Summer)". The track became the anthem for many students as they completed their educational careers. Additionally, due to his fame, Cooper landed a guest spot on The Muppet Show, which experienced a resurgence with its availability on the streamer Disney+.
Now, he hopes to mirror that experience on The Simpsons. After all, the only way to prove that you're really famous is to appear on the show, either as yourself, a spoof, or referenced. There are exceptions, but for the most part, nearly everyone vies for a spot.
According to a recent interview with Grammy, Cooper stretched his enthusiasm for a voiceover on the Emmy-winning show.
"Oh yeah, absolutely. When The Simpsons came out, they were totally unique. It was really, really funny. I really admired what they were doing. I showed up on Family Guy. They used my music a lot. [Creator Matt] Groening and those guys did an Alice character, and so did Family Guy. I thought Family Guy was probably more pointed, but I couldn't say it was more clever. They were both really very clever."
Alice Cooper did make a legacy on The Simpsons though
Despite not being a guest star (yet), on The Simpsons, Cooper did make certain unintended contributions in the music and referencing respects. Like we said, you're not famous until you're at least tied to the show in some reflection.
At the beginning of season 4, episode 1, "Kamp Krusty," Cooper's "School's Out" was featured in Bart's destruction dream, when he and his fellow students take down Springfield Elementary on their last day of school. Then, later in the season, Cooper was inspired to use Bart's feared uttering of "Can't sleep. Clown will eat me" into his 2001 song, "Can't Sleep. Clowns Will Eat Me."
Music stars such as The Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Lenny Kravitz, Green Day, and countless others have appeared on The Simpsons over the 30+ years. It's time that Cooper made his mark on the iconic show.
The Simpsons will premiere season 37 in September on FOX
