NCIS: Tony and Ziva season 1 recently premiered on Paramount+ on Sept. 4, and this new spinoff series already has everyone talking. The first three episodes dropped, and it saw the return of beloved NCIS characters Anthony DiNozzo and Ziva David (Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo), who quickly find themselves in a tricky situation when Tony’s security company is attacked. On the run across Europe, they must uncover who’s targeting them while navigating the complexities of their on-again, off-again relationship.

The police procedural comes from John McNamara, who serves as showrunner and executive producer. Other executive producers include Weatherly, de Pablo, Laurie Lieser, Christina Strain, Shelley Meals, and Mairzee Almas. In addition, CBS Studios is signed on as producer. There are 10 episodes in total in the first season, with the season finale currently set to be released on Paramount+ on Oct. 23.

As of Sept. 8, the streaming giant has not announced whether there will be an NCIS: Tony and Ziva season 2. Given that the show is still fresh with only its first three episodes released, Paramount+ is likely in the process of monitoring viewer response and engagement. We probably won't hear anything about the show's fate for several weeks, as the streaming giant carefully evaluates how fans are responding before making a decision on renewal.

However, both Weatherly and de Pablo have given an optimistic update about a second season. In a recent interview with TV Insider, the stars expressed how much they enjoyed returning to their iconic roles and how magical it felt to revisit Tony and Ziva. De Pablo called the first season “a dream” and praised the European backdrop, saying it almost acted as another character in the story. She also shared how she and Weatherly felt the spinoff was something they owed to the fans. They wanted to give viewers the story they had been waiting for.

“I think we’d be lucky to play these characters for — look, I’ll say this: Season 1 was like a dream. It was so much fun to go back and revisit these characters. Where this goes, we know not. All we know is that we had to do this. Michael and I felt we owed it to the fans. And so we’re really happy about this just being able to happen. We manifested it. It came together beautifully. We had [showrunner] John McNamara leading this. He came up with a world that is beautiful. I mean, visually. You saw how beautiful the backdrop of Europe is and how it almost is like a character in itself, like how that backdrop is its own sort of romantic character that allows the story to so beautifully be played out." - Cote de Pablo

While de Pablo admits that she and Weatherly don’t know what will happen with the show beyond season 1, she tells TV Insider that they'd be excited to continue if given the chance. This is great to know because it shows that the main stars are fully on board and enthusiastic about continuing the story of their characters. So if the viewership numbers for NCIS: Tony and Ziva season 1 end up meeting Paramount+'s standards and the show gets renewed, we won't have to worry about de Pablo or Weatherly not returning. Contracts will just need to be written up for them to sign on the dotted line.

With that out of the way, the main issue at the moment is securing that season 2 renewal. People really need to tune in and watch the series on Paramount+. This will show the streaming giant that there’s strong demand for Tony and Ziva’s continued adventures. That way, the streamer can go ahead and give the green light for a second season. So if you want an NCIS: Tony and Ziva season 2, make sure to tell everyone you know about it. This will better the show's renewal chances.

A new episode of NCIS: Tony and Ziva season 1 is available to stream on Paramount+ every Thursday.
