NCIS: Tony & Ziva hasn’t even premiered yet, and the show is already breaking down walls and making NCIS history! Not only is the show about to become the first NCIS franchise spinoff to air as a streaming original, but the show just set a new record with the release of its first official trailer.
After first debuting during the NCIS season 22 finale, the trailer for NCIS: Tony & Ziva managed to rack up nearly 100 million views across broadcast, social media, and digital platforms in the first seven days of its release. According to Deadline, the NCIS: Tony & Ziva trailer received 93 million views, which set a brand new franchise record, becoming the most-watched NCIS trailer in the franchise’s 22-year run. Though, is anyone really surprised?!
Yes, we must consider that the original show launched before social media revolutionized the entertainment industry. However, it’s of little surprise that the NCIS: Tony & Ziva trailer has become the most-watched trailer in the franchise’s history.
Tony and Ziva gave rise to one of the first official ships in TV history with the birth of Tiva. The pair’s chemistry led NCIS to some of its most successful years, with the dynamic defining the early seasons of the show. Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo remain two of the most beloved members of the entire NCIS franchise thanks to their respective roles as Tony and Ziva, and the franchise truly hasn’t been the same since their exits.
For years, fans dreamt of getting to see the pair back together in the flagship series after de Pablo and then Weatherly exited the show. That hope grew stronger when we learned that Ziva had faked her death, but sadly, their reunion never materialized in the way fans had dreamt with the pair’s reunion unfolding off-screen.. As crazy as it is to believe, we haven’t seen Tony and Ziva together on NCIS since de Pablo’s exit in season 11. While both Weatherly and de Pablo appeared on the show in the seasons after – Weatherly left the show after season 13 and last appeared in a guest spot in season 21, while de Pablo returned briefly in seasons 16 and 17 – the pair never crossed paths on the show after de Pablo’s departure from the show.
Thankfully, the pair were reunited off-screen, giving Tiva their happy ending, which was something fans could at least take comfort in. Now, we’ll finally get to see the pair onscreen together again in NCIS: Tony & Ziva, and it goes without saying that fans are counting down the days until the new series arrives. It’s not surprising at all that fans jumped at the chance to watch the trailer and get our first look at the pair’s onscreen reunion, with the trailer building excitement for the show.
If the trailer’s numbers are any indication, we wouldn’t be surprised at all to see NCIS: Tony & Ziva become the most successful Paramount+ original series in the history of the platform! And we most certainly hope that’s the case, so the powers that be consider keeping the show going beyond just one season, as that would be truly criminal!
