NCIS season 23 kicked off with Parker on a mission to bring his father’s killer to justice by any means necessary. The two-part premiere ended with a shocking development, with Parker stowing away on a ship holding Carla Marino as it headed for international waters. Deemed a threat to national security, Parker’s sister, Admiral Harriet Parker, had no choice but to order an airstrike to take the ship down.
We know Parker won’t be going down with the ship, but we’re going to wait to see how he manages to get out of the ordeal and whether he’ll bring down Carla. What we do know is that once we get past the second part of the premiere, fans can not only expect the show to return to its more standard case of the week format, but can also look forward to a surprise return as well.

Zane Holtz is returning to NCIS as Special Agent Sawyer
After Parker and the team presumably bring Carla Marino in the second part of the two-part premiere, episode 3 will see the team getting back into the swing of working cases of the week. For their first official case of the new season, it seems they’ll be getting an unwelcome hand from Special Agent Sawyer.
That’s right, Zane Holtz is set to return as Special Agent Sawyer in NCIS season 23, episode 3, marking his first appearance on the show since the fifteenth episode of season 22. So what brings Special Agent Sawyer back this time around?

In the third episode of the season, Parker’s team will have to work alongside Special Agent Sawyer after a petty officer’s death connects to a blackmail investigation. As expected, this won’t be a voluntary partnership with the episode synopsis teasing that the team is “forced to work” with Special Agent Sawyer, but that shouldn’t surprise anyone.
Torres and Sawyer’s friendly rivalry has been a real highlight, with the pair brilliantly playing off one another. The almost brotherly rivalry between the pair never fails to bring a bit of humor to the mix, and it’s always fun getting to see the pair forced to team up. We're certain that the episode is going to bring some laughs and find the pair at odds trying to one up one another.
We’d honestly love to see Sawyer become a more permanent fixture on the show, but for now we’ll happily accept the guest appearances as they come about!
