After a slam-dunk first season that made High Potential one of the most popular drama series on television, it's almost time to rejoin Morgan Gillory for another round of sniffing out the bad guys. When we last left her and the team in the season 1 finale, they chased a "game maker" and serial kidnapper who nearly caused Oz's death in a swimming pool.
The newly released High Potential season 2 trailer shockingly brings Morgan face to face with the mystery man played by Grimm star David Giuntoli. It's unclear what circumstances bring them in such close quarters, or if it's another one of those sequences that brings Morgan's thoughts to life, but Morgan and the game maker sit across from each other and play chess in a red-lit room.
It's definitely symbolic of their cat and mouse chase, especially since Morgan can be heard in the trailer lamenting to Karadec that they haven't tracked him down. Don't forget, in the final moments of season 1, Morgan realized that the man she bumped into in the grocery store parking lot was the game maker when she receives a note from him at home. Still so chilling!
High Potential season 2 trailer teases game maker and Roman's location
We don't know his real name yet, but the fact that the threat of the game maker hangs over her head and the safety of her children sends Morgan into high gear in season 2. Pair that with learning that Roman is still alive and Karadec knows his location, and it's an intense season. The trailer seemingly shows the team hopefully approaching Roman's location, but he's not revealed just yet.

Elsewhere in the trailer, one of Morgan's upcoming cases gets a preview, but it's unclear if it's connect to the game maker or if it's a different case entirely. A masked man attacks a woman on the street, and Morgan realizes that she used her purse as a weapon to fight him off. Morgan remains up to her usual mystery solving tricks, using odd and chaotic methods that make no sense to her team.
Seeing as the Roman mystery appears to be still developing, Ava processes the chance that she will have the opportunity to reunite with her father and believe that he didn't walk out on them. That's something Morgan has always believed, and she's not giving up on making that become a reality for her daughter. It's curious that his location is known but he doesn't appear to be found.
The end of the trailer gives us a first look at Reba and Shameless star Steve Howey as Nick Wagner, the new captain of the LAPD. Morgan and Nick meet in an elevator and she comments on his mustache. It isn't until later that he introduces himself as the captain, meaning she's already openly made fun of her new boss. But maybe there could be a bit of a spark between them.
Based on the limited amount of footage shown in the High Potential season 2, the new episodes look just as good or even better than season 1. Now we need answers about all the questions it poses, like does Morgan actually come face to face with the game maker and does she really get tossed into a trunk? Will Roman be found this season? We'll find out soon when season 2 premieres.
