Million Dollar Secret season 2 just came to an end on after its three-week run on Netflix on April 29, and fans around the world are already wondering what's next for Netflix's most mysterious reality series.
Well, Netflix hasn't renewed Million Dollar Secret for a third season yet, but that's to be expected. Most of the time, we have to wait a few months for Netflix to gather ratings data before making decisions about the future of its shows. Reality shows, while they might have a smaller hurdle to make compared to Netflix's scripted shows, still need pull solid ratings on Netflix to get renewed.
Million Dollar Secret season 2's ratings are a little bit challenging to quantify at the moment because Netflix released the season over three weeks, but there are some good reasons to feel optimistic Netflix will renew the series for another season. And, there are some reasons fans should be worried this could be the end of the road.
Let's start with the good news first.
Million Dollar Secret season 2's numbers look decent. The season premiered on Netflix on April 15, but the first batch of episodes failed to make it on the Netflix Top 10. We don't have the official ratings for that five-day window, but it's safe to assume that it didn't total more than 2.4 million views. That's what Beef season 2 racked up during that week, and it ranked No. 10 on the Netflix Top 10.
The second week on Netflix, Million Dollar Secret season 2 rounded out the Netflix Top 10 in the No. 10 spot with 2.6 million views. That's about as much as Age of Attraction and a little more than Temptation Island season 2. That's good news!
We love to see reality shows scoring in that range because, historically, Netflix has ordered a lot of new seasons when those reality shows crack the Netflix Top 10. So, that's the good news. The other spot of good news it that it can't be that expensive to produce this show. You have the costs of production and talent. Then, you have a $1 million prize. It also films in Canada, which is typically cheaper for Netflix shows.
Those are the reasons I think Million Dollar Secret season 3 will happen, but there's some bad news, too.
The bad news is that Million Dollar Secret season 2 failed to crack the Netflix Top 10 the week the finale was released. You can look at that a few ways, but basically, new fans stopped discovering the series in that time and returning fans probably just watched the finale to see who won the season.
So, we don't have a ton of data, as mentioned, to make a prediction on Million Dollar Secret season 3 just yet. I would have loved to see the show continue on the Netflix Top 10 for another week. That would have basically guaranteed that we'd see another season.
There's no doubt that this show might be on the chopping block, though. It's 2.6 million views in the middle of the season are not a huge number by any stretch, so it's possible that Netflix could wash its hands of this show after season 2.
We also haven't seen a casting call yet for Million Dollar Secret season 3 yet. That will be a great sign the show is coming back when it happens, but for now, there's still a question mark.
At the end of the day, I do think we'll see Million Dollar Secret renewed for season 3 on Netflix, but we need more fans to keep watching this show to ensure it gets renewed for more and more seasons.
