Matlock star pitches unexpected crossover with fellow hit CBS drama

Jason Ritter is up for a crossover between Matlock and a surprising CBS drama.

In a world of TV, almost anything is possible. That can include crossover events. Jason Ritter would love to see a crossover between Matlock and another CBS show, and while it’s initially surprising, I’m somewhat here for the idea.

Now, let’s get one thing straight. This is a pipe dream. While crossovers are possible, a crossover between two IPs is so much harder. There are a lot of hoops to jump through, even when the shows are on the same network. There are a bunch of dream crossovers that I have, but they remain dreams that are made a reality through fan fiction, and that’s all.

That doesn’t stop some ideas from popping up, though. Jason Ritter wants a crossover with Justin Hartley’s series, Tracker.

Jason Ritter would love to join Colter Shaw in Tracker

The Matlock star talked to Us Weekly, where he shared his fun idea for a crossover. What if Julian decided to start a new life? Ritter would be more than happy to team up with Colter Shaw and offer some help on a case in Tracker.

Now, this does seem like a highly unlikely team up. If Colter was going to team up with anyone in Matlock, it would be Matty. Or even Alfie. He could certainly use their brains and Matty’s ability to slip through the cracks unnoticed. Julian? Hmm, maybe not so much.

That being said, Julian is potentially going to be looking to get away from his current life. In the Matlock season 1 finale, Olympia found the removed study that led to the Wellbrexa case going in Jacobson & Moore’s way. We know from the Matlock season 2 premiere synopsis that Olympia is going to cover for her ex-husband, but that’s not going to be easy. Julian is sure to panic, as he’s never quite been the coolest of personalities.

There’s a lot for Julian to deal with in his world, with both his affair and the hidden study coming out. He’s going to have to lean on Olympia in many more ways than he would have liked to in the past, and Olympia is going to hold so many more cards in this divorce.

The Disciple
“The Disciple” – A new lead in Colter’s white whale case, the disappearance of Gina Picket, brings him and retired cop Keaton back together to track down a serial killer, on the CBS Original series TRACKER, Sunday, Feb. 16 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+(live and on demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. Could a Tracker and Matlock crossover happen?

Of course, it’s highly unlikely. Not only are the two shows created by two different teams, but they also have different vibes. Out of any show on CBS, Matlock would likely be better crossing over with Elsbeth, while Tracker would likely work best with NCIS or FBI, or maybe even Watson.

The truth is that this is just a dream, and a fun one at that. Hey, if the two shows wanted to team up, I’d be all here for it. I would love to see Colter’s reaction to Matty’s skills.

Matlock season 2 premieres on Sunday, Oct. 12 at 8:30 p.m. ET/8 p.m. PT and the moves to Thursdays at 9/8c. Tracker season 3 premieres on Sunday, Oct. 19 at 8/7c. Both are on CBS.
