Catch her if you can! That's always the name of the game with the unpredictable Morgan Gillory, and it's even more apt for the midseason premiere of High Potential season 2 on ABC. The network revealed its midseason lineup with premieres and returns coming within the first three months of 2026, and there's a move in store for the fan-favorite police procedural.
While High Potential has taken up residence and held down the fort on Tuesday at 10 p.m. on ABC, and found incredible success with that timeslot, the show will be looking to dominate another timeslot in the new year. When the series returns from its fall finale, it will do so one hour earlier, thus taking on a bit more competition from the other networks' Tuesday night output.
High Potential season 2 returns on Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2026 at 9/8c on ABC, streaming the next day on Hulu (and Disney+ with the Hulu bundle). ABC opted to sandwich the series between the Will Trent season 4 premiere at 8/7c and The Rookie season 8 premiere at 10/9c. No matter what time any of these shows air, that's a solid lineup of can't-miss shows and a strong night of TV!

High Potential season 2 sets competitive return for January 2026
Speaking of taking on more competition, High Potential moves from the less competitive Tuesday at 10 p.m. timeslot and brings its power to 9 p.m. The series will now be on against NCIS: Origins on CBS and Doc on FOX, both of which air on Tuesdays at 9 and both of which have been popular among their fans this season. It's a real battle of hit second-season shows on Tuesdays in 2026!
Currently, NBC hasn't revealed what will be airing on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. as of this writing. NBA games could still be airing in place of a new season of The Voice, though the network will surely let fans know what will be entering the ring alongside High Potential, NCIS: Origins, and Doc. It will be most interesting to see how High Potential's move could further boost its ratings power.
Moving to the 9 p.m. timeslot, while putting the show into direct contact with other beloved series, also potentially allows for more eyeballs to tune in. For a lot of people (myself included), 10 p.m. is too late to watch new episodes, which is why I have opted to catch on up on High Potential on Disney+. But the fact that it's moving up one hour allows me, and many others, to watch live on ABC.
Some could be worried that moving the show right as it has found its ratings sweet spot at 10 p.m. and had streaming numbers locked and loaded could tamper with its momentum. But we should never count out Morgan Gillory! She never turns down a little friendly competition, and in fact, she probably would have a "more the merrier" attitude about this move. We all win at the end of the day!
