Mekhi Phifer, who is known for previously starring as Dr. Gregory Pratt on the long-running medical drama, is reportedly joining High Potential season 2 in a recurring guest role. Variety was the first to report the news. His role is secretive, but he is reportedly playing someone involved in major crimes, which suggests he could be a suspect, criminal, law enforcement figure, or some kind of antagonist.

Besides ER, Phifer has appeared in numerous TV shows including Lie to Me, House of Lies, Truth Be Told, Frequency and Love, Victor. On the film side, he's widely recognized for his role in 8 Mile opposite Eminem, and has also starred in Dawn of the Dead, O, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer and the Divergent franchise.

He's the latest cast addition for High Potential season 2. Back in June 2025, Steve Howey (Shameless, Reba) was announced as joining the cast as a new series regular. He will play a character named Jesse Wagner. Jesse is described as the LAPD's new precinct captain. Howey and Phifer join the returning cast members, including series lead Kaitlin Olson, as well as Daniel Sunjata, Javicia Leslie, Deniz Akdeniz, Amirah J, Matthew Lamb, and Judy Reyes.

High Potential was created by Drew Goddard (Daredevil). It's based on the French-Belgian show Haut Potentiel Intellectuel, HPI for short, and stars Olson as Morgan Guillory, a single mother with an exceptionally high IQ who becomes a consultant for the Los Angeles Police Department’s Major Crimes division. Together with her partner, Detective Adam Karadec, Morgan works to solve complex cases.

There will be 18 episodes in total for High Potential season 2, which is a five-episode bump from season 1. This is great news for fans as they will have more episodes to enjoy Morgan’s brilliant mind at work, deeper mysteries to unravel, and extended time with their favorite characters.
