Kathy Bates is nothing short of a Hollywood icon. With a career spanning decades, she’s terrified us in Misery, made us laugh in comedies, and left us in awe of her sheer talent on both the big and small screens. She’s won an Oscar, dazzled audiences, and become a household name. But when it comes to the Emmys, things get a little more complicated. Has this acclaimed actress ever actually taken home television’s most coveted award?

Kathy Bates Emmy wins

Well, that'll be yes. She’s claimed not just one, but two Emmys. In 2012, she took home the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her role in Two and a Half Men. Then, in 2014, she won the Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or Movie for her powerhouse performance in American Horror Story: Coven.

While this is great and all, Bates should've definitely snagged even more Emmys for the countless iconic performances she’s delivered over the years. It just doesn't make sense that an actress as talented and versatile as Bates hasn’t been recognized even more by the Television Academy. Sure, she's received a total of 15 Emmy nominations, but to have only two wins feels almost criminal when you consider the range of characters she’s brought to life.

Bates is currently vying for the 2025 Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for bringing Madeline “Matty” Matlock to life in CBS’s Matlock reboot. At 77 years old, she's made history as the oldest nominee ever in this category. We're hoping that this historic nomination finally lands her another Emmy. She's definitely more than deserving!

She's going up against other gifted actors, including Sharon Horgan (Bad Sisters), Britt Lower (Severance), Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us), and Keri Russell (The Diplomat). However, we have faith that Bates will pull through and be the lucky person to walk away with the Emmy, adding another glittering accolade to her legendary career.

The 77th Primetime Emmy Awards, aka the 2025 Emmys, are set to take place at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, California, on Sunday, Sept. 14, 2025. The award ceremony will be broadcast live on CBS on this date at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT. It will also be available to stream on Paramount+ with Showtime. In addition, stand-up comedian Nate Bargatze is confirmed to host.
