It has been well over a month since NBC's soapy whodunnit Grosse Pointe Garden Society wrapped up its first season with a surprising final hour that revealed the truth behind several big mysteries, and we're still no closer to finding out if the show will be renewed.
The good news is that the show did avoid getting canceled alongside several other NBC series, such as Suits LA, Lopez vs. Lopez, and Found, but it also didn't get renewed. That being said, it is already too late for the drama to join NBC's upcoming 2025-26 lineup as there are no slots available with the renewed series and NBC's recent acquisition of the NBA's broadcast rights. But don't fret just yet, there is still a chance for our mischievous gardeners to find a home elsewhere.
According to co-creator Bill Krebs, who recently chatted with Detroit Metro Times, there is still some hope for the series to find new life at the NBCUniversal streamer Peacock, where he says it has seen "an uptick" in ratings. Grosse Pointe Garden Society is a very binge-able show so I can see why it would pick up steam on a streaming service.
When the series premiered at midseason this past February, it pulled in strong debut numbers before getting lost in its Sunday night 10 p.m. time slot. NBC moved it to a Friday night airtime, but it start to lose steam.
Krebs told the outlet that he would like moving the show to Peacock as it would make it easier on him and the writers to create a solid storyline in advance. It was harder to do so with the NBC schedule as they had to write while the show was filming, whereas on streaming the scripts would be done well in advance of the cameras rolling.
“It would be ideal to find a home on Peacock. We’d write all the episodes in advance and not fear getting caught by production breathing down our necks. We’d have all the scripts in front of us to make our story sing brighter and louder. But this month on Peacock predicts our fate," he said.
What can you do to assist in raising the chances of Grosse Pointe Garden Society getting renewed? Krebs says he needs as many people as possible to watch the show on Peacock. Even if you've seen it already, he adds that letting the episodes run to completion in the background is a good idea.
"Then watch again…and again…and again!”
NBC is also airing reruns of the show linearly throughout the summer and will be taking those viewership numbers into account as well.
Grosse Pointe Garden Society is an addictive series that reminded me of some of the primetime soaps we'd see regularly airing in the early 2000s, like Desperate Housewives. It stars Melissa Fumero, Aja Naomi King, Ben Rappaport, and AnnaSophia Robb as members of a suburban gardening club who are hiding a very dark secret.
