Ahead of the Grey's Anatomy season 22 premiere tonight, news has broke that one of the show’s breakout guest stars from last season—whose brief appearances had fans buzzing and guessing about what was next—has officially been promoted to series regular. Now, are we surprised? Not really.
When this talented actor was announced to join the season 21 cast in April 2025, it was reported that they might be promoted to a main cast member if a twenty-second season were to occur. Grey's Anatomy showrunner Meg Marinis had even hinted at this move in an interview with Deadline in May 2025. However, we still didn't know for sure if it would actually happen. Well, that's until now.
Trevor Jackson is officially a series regular for Grey's Anatomy season 22
This is true! According to Deadline, Trevor Jackson has leveled up from guest star to series regular on the hit medical drama series. If you recall from season 21, Jackson guest-starred in the last two episodes. However, his character wasn't given a name at the time.
We meet him closer to the end of the seventeenth episode, right after Simone and Adams break up, when she retreats to a bar and crosses paths with his confident and somewhat arrogant character. They end up hooking up, only for Simone to find out soon that he's one of the new medical interns at Grey Sloan Memorial. That's how they end off in the season 21 finale. Now, we know the character's name. As reported by Deadline, Jackson's character is named Wes Bryant.
Given that Simone and Adams are back on good terms at the end of season 21, Wes's arrival is sure to shake things up in their relationship in season 22, especially since Simone didn't tell Adams about their one-night stand. Drama alert!
Grey's Anatomy season 22 welcomes two new additions to its ensemble
Besides Jackson being bumped up to a series regular, we've also learned of two new cast additions for Grey's Anatomy season 22. Jade Pettyjohn, who is best known for her roles on Little Fires Everywhere and Big Sky, joins the cast as Dani, another new medical intern. She will make her first appearance in Grey's Anatomy season 22 in the first episode.
The second new addition is Anita Kalathara, who will play Kavita, a highly skilled and good-looking plastic surgeon known for her professionalism and no-nonsense approach. You might recognize Kalathara from her previous role as Holly in Doom Patrol. She also voiced the role of Laguna Tidepool in the animated series TrollsTopia. Unlike Pettyjohn, who we will see in the season 22 premiere, Kalathara's Kavita won't make her first appearance until the third episode of the season.
Grey's Anatomy season 22 will premiere on ABC on Thursday, Oct. 9 at 10/9c.
