What another incredible season of Grey's Anatomy. The twenty-first season wrapped up on ABC yesterday with its final episode, and boy, did it deliver. While a lot was going on throughout the season 21 finale that had us glued to the screen, it was the ending that truly left us speechless. We're even more eager now to see what Grey's Anatomy season 22 has in store, especially with so many characters’ fates hanging in the balance after the devastating hospital fire.

Series showrunner Meg Marinis has already confirmed that two characters are safe. But beyond those characters, the fate of everyone else remains a mystery. That said, Marinis did reveal one exciting detail. A new face introduced in Grey's Anatomy season 21 will definitely be back in season 22. That actor is Trevor Jackson, who made his first appearance in the penultimate episode of the season.

In a recent interview with Deadline, Marinis was asked about Jackson’s status for Grey’s Anatomy season 22, and she confirmed that he will be returning.

"We were extremely happy the way that he played out. We were really looking for a confident, arrogant guy to go in there, so we were very happy. Trevor is great, we will see him again." - Meg Marinis

When Jackson was announced to had joined the season 21 cast in April 2025, it was also mentioned that he might become a regular cast member if the show was renewed for another season. Now that the renewal has actually happened, Marinis has officially confirmed Jackson’s return. However, she didn't specify whether he will have a series regular role. Given where his character ends up at the end of the season 21 finale, I wouldn't be surprised if we see him in more than just two episodes in the new season. His character will definitely cause some drama!

Jackson appears in episodes 17 and 18 of Grey's Anatomy season 21, and interestingly, his character has yet to be named. He is introduced near the end of episode 17, right after Simone and Adams have broken up. Simone retreats to a bar to drown her sorrows, where she meets Jackson’s character, who comes across as quite arrogant. Following a short conversation, they end up at a hotel and spend the night together.

In episode 18, Simone tries to forget about what happened and focus on her job. But after the traumatic hostage situation, she and Adams decide to get back together. However, she doesn't tell him that she slept with anyone else. Near the end of the season 21 finale, while Simone is chatting with Kwan in the locker room, Jackson’s character walks by with a group. It looks like he’s a new surgical intern or resident at Grey Sloan Memorial, meaning he and Simone are bound to cross paths frequently. Before he walks away, he makes a remark to Simone that leaves her visibly stunned.

Grey's Anatomy season 22 is set to air on ABC sometime this fall.
