Ghosts showrunner teases return of key character in season 5

Ghosts season 4 introduced Joan, and now we need to see more.

There are a few new characters introduced in Ghosts season 4 that we would love to see more of. The good news is that one of them will definitely be back in Ghosts season 5.

As the fourth season grew, we were introduced to more ghosts. One of them was a fellow roamer called Joan, a woman from the 1940s who was brought in by Pete to be a love interest for Sass. At first, it looked like she was going to help Sass get to his first love, but in the end, Pete’s plan did work out!

However, it’s clear that there is more to Joan’s story. We know very little about how she died and where she came from. More importantly, we have no idea about how she figured out she could roam for so long.

Joan’s story could be further explored in Ghosts season 5

In some great news, Ghosts co-showrunner Joe Port told TVLine that we will get to see more of Joan. At least, that’s the clue between the words, as he tells us that we’ll get to learn more about her.

Taylor Ortega hasn’t been upped to series regular just yet, but that doesn’t mean she can’t heavily recur. As she’s a roamer, she could disappear for a few weeks to explore a few other places and then come back for some time with Sass. She doesn’t boast about her ability to step off the property in the way that Pete does, and instead has some intriguing stories for Sass, so he could take in everything about her travels.

“I mean, you know Pete’s story — it’s because he was a travel agent and never went anywhere — so I guess we’ll learn more about Joan’s, yes.”

This would allow for more explanation about why she ended up with the roaming abilities. After all, Pete got his because he was a travel agent who never traveled. Now that he’s dead, he’s able to do everything that he once dreamed of.

Joan was a journalist, and there’s a chance that she had a dream about traveling to get stories. Now that she’s a ghost, she can do that.

As for Joan roaming for so long, she’s already explained that it game with time. It’s like an elastic band. Initially, the band is tight, but over time, the band gets loose. Now Joan is allowed to travel further for longer, and it’s something Pete will eventually be able to do.

Is there is time frame that she needs to follow? Surely the need to return doesn’t just disappear completely. This could be something Ghosts season 5 also explores.

Ghosts season 5 will premiere on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 8:30/7:30c on CBS.
