Since learning that Sass was a 500-year-old virgin, the focus in Ghosts season 4 has been all about finding him a woman to lose his virginity. Pete did find someone, but would it lead to the two of them hooking up? Ghosts season 4, episode 21 brought us a storyline that is a great lesson for everyone.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Ghosts season 4, episode 21.

Making sure Joan and Sass liked each other was just the first part of the story. Once we learned that they seemed to be made for each other, it was time for Sass to finally lose his virginity. I think part of the problem for Sass is that so many of the others were putting the pressure on him.

So, when he starts asking for advice about how to make moves on Joan, he gets some great ones that work for them. Thor suggests to take control, and sure, that would work for a Viking. It doesn’t work for Sass in Ghosts, though.

Sass learns to be himself in Ghosts season 4, episode 21

As Sass takes Thor’s advice, it becomes obvious that it just isn’t him. Yes, Joan seems to like Sass taking control at first, but being thrown through a wall is not what she thinks is fun in the bedroom. Fortunately, Joan is pretty smitten on Sass, and she also seems to understand the type of guy he is. She doesn’t need a burly, take control type of guy.

Joan comes back to the room to talk to Sass and remind him that she fell for him. One of the things Sass didn’t do when he first met her was pretend to be someone else. He was unapologetically a storyteller and listener, and that’s what helped her fall for him. When he made it clear that his heart was with Shiki, she was there and she could see the type of dreamer that he is.

All Joan wants is a man who can be himself, and while it’s understandable that he turned to others for advice, it doesn’t mean that advice works for him. Being honest was the best thing that he could do — it’s not like him being a 500-year-old virgin was that much of a secret for Joan.

This episode is a lesson for all of us, though. We need to be ourselves, because there is someone out there for us. Arguably, Sass didn’t need to wait 500 years as a ghost to find that someone since Shiki would have likely been interested in life had Sass had the guts to talk to her, but it’s better late than never.

Yes, Sass and Joan finally consummate their relationship, and everyone is happy for Sass. Personally, I’m just excited to see where this storyline could go considering Sass has someone who accepts him for him so unapologetically, and it’s a beautiful message to share.

Ghosts airs on Thursdays at 8:30/7:30c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
