It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the final episode of Ghosts season 4, but alas, the season finale has arrived and the writers delivered yet another amazing episode!
As the season 4 finale begins, Sam pulls Jay outside to the car to share the exciting news that her publisher is throwing a big launch party for her and Isaac’s book. There’s just one problem, the party is set to be in New York and she’s pulled Jay aside to try to come up with an excuse for where they’re going to hide the party from everyone knowing it’ll just make Isaac disappointed.
The pair comes up with an excuse, but their plan is foiled when Pete returns from a trip with Kyle in Chicago and congratulates Sam on the book party in New York. Turns out that Jay told Bela about the party, Bela told Kyle, and then Kyle told Pete. With news of the party out in the open, Sam comes clean and tells Isaac that she simply was keeping it a secret in hopes of sparing his feelings.
Seeing Isaac’s disappointment, Sam reaches out and convinces the publisher to move the party to the inn so that Isaac is able to attend.
With the party moving to the restaurant, prep begins on getting things ready for the party including a visit from Sam’s publisher. As Sas, Trevor, Flower and Peter talk about the party in the barn, Patience arrives having sensed the presence of evil and isn’t thrilled when she learns about the celebration being about a vampire book.
Sam wanders over and assures Patience there’s nothing unholy about the party, to which Patience makes it clear that she will not allow the occult gathering to proceed as planned. Patience threatens to use her ghost power, and Sam says they’ll cancel the party. When Patience confesses she still senses the evil, the other ghosts suggest perhaps the evil is back at the house.
Back at the house, Alberta admits to Hetty that she’s hot for Pete. Turns out all she can see is a globetrotting bad boy and she had a dirty dream about him. She makes Hetty promise not to tell anyone which Hetty assures her she’ll do, until Trevor and Sas bring Patience to the house to start looking for the sense of evil to keep her distracted and away from the barn so the party can go on.
As Patience is about to leave, Hetty tells Patience that Alberta has been having improper thoughts about Pete and that Patience could perhaps help. Annoyed, Alberta caves for the greater good to keep her away from the barn, which leads Patience to arrange a day of humiliation. Patience arranges a day of humiliation and brings in all of the ghosts from the basement, among others. She has Alberta confess her feelings, which she does openly, just as Pete enters and hears it all unfolding before walking out.
At the party in the barn, Isaac cannot believe that Patience came back and almost ruined his party. As Flower tells the group nothing evil is going on we see that Patience was indeed sensing evil and that evil happens to be Elias, who is at the party and mingling with Bela.
Speaking of Bela, she ends up spoiling the ghosts’ plans as she walks in during Alberta’s day of humiliation, only to hear Bela telling Kyle over the phone about the plan to trick Patience to avoid issues with the party. After learning the truth, Patience storms into the barn as Sam is giving a book reading and begins using her blood powers. When Jay thinks on the spot and makes it seem like a planned PR stunt to promote the book, the crowd goes wild.
Despite the threat Patience posed, the party went off without a hitch and was an incredible success… well that is until we learn the truth about Elias’s presence.
We’re tipped off when a food writer comes over to compliment Jay on his food and arrange a cover story. She mentioned that the restaurant wasn’t even on her radar until Jay’s publicist reached out to put it on his radar, enter Brent aka Elias! While we thought Jay turned Elias away, it seems Jay ended up signing a deal with him which allowed Elias to steal Jay’s soul in the paperwork. When Jay dies, he’ll go straight to hell!
As he goes to leave, Elias warns Jay that he should enjoy the little time he has. Jay makes it clear he has plenty of time to figure this out, which is when Elias mentions that they have ways of speeding things along as he tries to kill him with a falling light fixture before bidding him farewell. Needless to say, we’re not sure how this is going to play out, but Jay and Sam are going to have an uphill battle in season 5 working to find a way to not only keep Jay safe but also get his soul back!
As the episode ends, Pete finally returns after disappearing for two days. Upon his return, Alberta tries to brush off what she said before he left, but it turns out the reason he left was to go break things off with Donna. The pair share a steamy kiss as the season ends, hinting that they’ve got a lot to figure out in the next season!
