Who's ready for Doc season 2? We are, and we've been eagerly counting down the days until we get to see Amy and all of our other favorite doctors back on our screens! The second season of the hit medical drama is scheduled to premiere on Fox on Sept. 23, so we're just around the corner from its release.

In recent weeks, the network has been providing fans with exciting season 2 content like the official trailer and even a juicy first look. This season will introduce two new characters: Dr. Joan Ridley and Hannah. Desperate Housewives star Felicity Huffman portrays Joan, and while at first she was believed to be a good friend and mentor to Amy, it looks like her arrival will stir up trouble and test Amy in ways she never expected.

In the Doc season 2 first look, Joan is shown speaking with Dr. Michael Hamda. He offers her the job of Chief of Internal Medicine at Westside Hospital, and she takes it. Amy is initially happy to learn that she'll be working with an old friend, but things change after Joan announces to the hospital staff that she'll be conducting an official evaluation of the entire department. Depending on how they perform, it will determine their future at the hospital.

Amy approaches Joan and confronts her about her reviewing her cases. Although this is typical in evaluations, it appears Amy thought she would be treated differently since she's Joan's friend. However, we discover in the Doc season 2 trailer that Joan doesn't back down and instead tells Amy that she's "still auditioning."

In other words, it doesn't look like Joan will let their friendship affect her judgment. She's not giving Amy any special treatment and is instead holding her to the same high standards as everyone else. This will most likely affect their relationship going forward. Doc executive producer Hank Steinberg teased in a recent interview with TV Line that the Joan character has "ambitions for herself," so there's definitely more to her than meets the eye. We can't wait to see how she shakes things up at Westside Hospital!

Another character that is expected to cause trouble for Amy this season is new intern Hannah, who is played by Emma Pfitzer Price. In the Doc season 2 first look, Hannah tells Amy that her father once worked under her at the hospital for three years. We're then shown flashbacks of Amy and Hannah's father, and it's clear they weren't on friendly terms back then. Could Hannah be harboring resentment towards Amy? It looks that way in the first look, but we'll just have to watch the second season to find out.
