The cast of CBS's upcoming Blue Bloods spinoff, Boston Blue, is coming together nicely with the new addition of Maggie Lawson, who many will recognize from her previous roles in shows like Psych and Lethal Weapon. Her casting comes as the series continues to round out its ensemble. She joins already announced cast members Donnie Wahlberg (Blue Bloods, Rizzoli & Isles), Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery, The Walking Dead), and Ernie Hudson (Quantum Leap, L.A.'s Finest).

Back in February 2025, CBS announced that it had officially given a straight-to-series order for Boston Blue. The network had also revealed at the time that the series was planned to air during the 2025-2026 TV season. Brandon Sonnier and Brandon Margolis developed the police procedural drama and serve as showrunners and executive producers. Additionally, Wahlberg, Jerry Bruckheimer, and KristieAnne Reed are executive producers. Anthony Hemingway is set to helm and executive produce the first episode.

The series centers around Wahlberg’s character from Blue Bloods, Danny Reagan, who transfers from the NYPD to join the Boston Police Department. There, he teams up with Detective Lena Silver (played by Martin-Green), the oldest daughter of a distinguished law enforcement family, and navigates the challenges of policing in a new city.

Lawson joins the cast as a series regular, playing Sarah Silver, a determined and confident Superintendent in the Boston Police Department. She is also Lena's stepsister. Besides Psych and Lethal Weapon, you might've watched Lawson in other shows like Back in the Game, Two and a Half Men, The Ranch, Santa Clarita Diet and Outmatched.

Then, there's Hudson portraying Reverend Peters, a pastor of a Baptist Church in Boston and Lena's grandfather. Hudson previously had a role in Blue Bloods, playing a principal in an episode. He is portraying a much different role in the show's spinoff.

Boston Blue will premiere this fall on CBS, airing in the time slot previously occupied by Blue Bloods. You can expect new episodes of the spinoff to air on Fridays at 10:00 p.m. ET/9:00 p.m. CT. However, an official premiere date has not been announced yet. Once CBS announces this juicy information, you'll be the first to know. We also expect to hear of additional cast additions as well. Don't worry. You can count on us at GeekSided to share all the latest updates as they are revealed. But you'll have to stay tuned for now!
