Monday is here, and that should mean a new episode of Brilliant Minds. There’s a disappointing update tonight, Monday, Jan. 19.

Brilliant Minds season 2 episode 13 won’t air tonight. No, the series hasn’t been suddenly canceled. This is somewhat of a planned break in the schedule for a couple of reasons.

Why isn’t Brilliant Minds on tonight, Monday, Jan. 19?

The lack of a new episode is linked to two reasons, and the first is that it’s Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This is a day when many workplaces take off, and the networks likely know people will want to relax. None of the networks has new episodes of shows airing tonight.

There’s also another reason for NBC to take a break tonight. There’s a basketball game on instead. In fact, there are two, with one of the games currently airing at the time of writing this. The second game, which is the Boston Celtics playing the Detroit Pistons, starts at 8 p.m. ET and will run throughout the night into Brilliant Minds’ normal timeslot.

NBC can’t air two things at once, and the sports fixtures do better in terms of linear ratings. So, it’s not surprising that the game gets to take over the timeslot for the night.

When will Brilliant Minds season 2 episode 13 air?

NBC did warn us of this break when the promo came out after Brilliant Minds season 2 episode 12. It told us that the show would return on Monday, Jan. 26, and this is when episode 13 of the current season will air.

The promo doesn’t give us a lot to work with. What we do know is that Sofia will spend more time with Oliver, even coming to the hospital with him. This is likely due to him needing to run some tests to help get to the bottom of her insomnia, as he agreed to treat her in return of finding out more about his father.

The synopsis tells us a little more about the medical cases that will come up during the episode, with one involving a college student with a mysterious illness. That’s all we get to know, and with this show, it could literally be anything. The college student is in a sorority, so that’s going to be a rabbit hole for Wolf to get into.

Thorne will get more airtime, as he has a child who collapses under mysterious circumstances. What’s the betting that the parents are going to blame each other, or it’s going to lead to some sort of custody battle threat? We’ll get to find out in a week.

Brilliant Minds airs Mondays at 10/9c on NBC.
