Another hit 1990s show will be formatted in a reboot, and FOX was given the green light to air it. It's Baywatch, the beach drama that deeply explores the lives and working experiences of lifeguards. It was first premiered on NBC in 1989 and launched the respective careers of Pamela Anderson, Carmen Electra, and Yasmine Bleeth.

Due to low ratings, NBC cancelled Baywatch after its first season, but a determined David Hasselhoff, who portrayed Mitch Buchannon, brought it from NBC and ran it through first-run syndication. With his move, the syndicated version became a massive splash and ran for eleven seasons, ending in 2001. During its reign, Baywatch amassed over a billion weekly views, marking it as one of the 90s' most popular shows. It became cemented in pop culture history.

After many years since its series finale, Baywatch is being rebooted and reimagined for today's audience, still embodying the original themes that made the original drama resonate and provided a unique TV experience.

While we're excited about the Baywatch reboot, we have unfortunate news: we'll have to wait a bit for its arrival on FOX and on our small screens.

Here's when Baywatch the reboot will be coming to FOX

FOX plans to launch the reboot for its 2026-2027 TV schedule, so that's a full year away. Deadline reports that the storylines of the series take place in Southern California, following the tradition of its predecessor, and along the coast of Australia, as the country boasts some gorgeous scenery there.

In a press statement by FOX and obtained by FanSided, it gives the following of Baywatch's narrative and what the audience can look forward to in the next adventure.

"Fans can expect all the adrenaline-fueled rescues, tangled relationships, complicated chemistry, and beachside heroics that defined the original. With an entirely new cast, contemporary trappings, tensions, and challenges, and a renewed mission to protect Southern California’s shoreline."

As of right now, no cast has been announced for the reboot, but Michael Berk, Greg Bonann and Doug Schwartz are returning as executive producers from the original series. As a side thought, it'll be surreal if Hasselhoff and Anderson returned to Baywatch in some form, as it would bring the two series full circle.

The 4-part documentary, After Baywatch: Moment in the Sun, is currently streaming on Hulu. Each episode unveils the drama and triumphs of the show's legacy, as well as commentary from the stars.
