Ava Coleman's character arc has been Abbott Elementary perfection

There are many reasons for fans to love Abbott Elementary, including the most basic one, that it is a consistently funny show that will make viewers legitimately laugh out loud. Some of the show's other highlights include its compelling storylines, fantastic recurring jokes, and the fact that it features a slew of beloved characters.

For many Abbott Elementary fans, it can be difficult to choose their favorite character since there are so many greats to choose from. It makes sense to love characters like Janine Teagues, Gregory Eddie, Melissa Schemmenti, Jacob Hill, and Mr. Johnson, of course. While all of those characters have fans for great reasons, Ava Coleman is also a huge highlight of the sitcom for many viewers.

A comedy machine, Ava constantly throws out one-liners that can make viewers laugh hysterically at any given second. A perfect example of Ava making the most out of every moment came when she was introduced to Janine's mom. It was truly hilarious when Ava began to insult Janine, realized her mom was a formidable person who could beat her up, and quickly retreated, complete with practically running away.

As funny as Ava has always been, the real beauty of her character is how perfectly she has evolved during the show's five seasons.

Regular TV viewers will be well acquainted with the trope of introducing a character who is a jerk and revealing they had, or grew, a heart of gold. While that character arc has shown up in lots of shows, the problem is that many examples of that have seen the evolving character suddenly feel like a completely different person. As a result, going back and watching the earliest version of that character can draw attention to how disjointed their portrayal has been.

In Ava's case, Abbott Elementary managed to avoid that failure by evolving the character while making it feel like her growth was organic. Even though Ava went from being uninterested in her employees and her school's students to showing up when she didn't even work there anymore, she has always remained the same character.

Ava still throws out one-liners, she has never stopped launching a myriad of often dubious businesses, and she continues to mock everyone around her. The difference is that Ava now does those things while still caring about the people she spends her life with.
