We watched six couples fall in love and make promises to each other at the remote resort in Whistler, British Columbia, during Age of Attraction season 1, but as it turns out, production cut at least one other couple before the show moved to the move-in stage in Vancouver.
In a TikTok video from a few days before the Age of Attraction finale, Katharine Newman (32), who was seen on the show in a few scenes, revealed that Age of Attraction cut a major storyline between her and Justin Silberman (45), who was part of the love triangle with Vanelle Fenmou and Jorge Sanchez.
"I went to the promise room with Justin," Katharine says in the video while answering a question from a fan. "Which I think a lot of you would be surprised to hear. He was in the show. They just edited me out of his storyline, and kept his storyline with Vanelle because she had the love triangle with Jorge and Justin."
She continued to explain that she and Justin were dating in the show, and they went to the promise room together, where they revealed their age difference (13 years), and agreed to keep going with the experiment.
Producers of Age of Attraction had other ideas. Katharine revealed that she and Justin were not among the six couples selected to move in together in Vancouver. Most of their relationship was cut from the series.
"We did have an age gap of like 13 years," Katharine revealed. "That was not what production wanted. I think they wanted larger age gaps."
Ultimately, she said that was the difference in why they didn't make it to the next round of the show.
"It just wasn't what they were looking for, so we didn't end up going to Vancouver."
It's so interesting to see how this all played out and who got picked to continue with the show. Looking back, I would argue Justin and Katharine were a pretty compelling couple. Obviously, I don't know who I would take out of the couples they chose.
This happens a lot on reality shows, though. There are only so many slots for couples to continue due to budgets and narrative reasons. Love is Blind is another show that was recently in the headlines for having too many couples to move to the next round, so they sent the only couple who stayed married, Vic and Christine, to Malibu instead of Mexico.
Well, Love is Blind is 10 seasons in, plus all the international seasons, so they have a little more wiggle room than a new show like Age of Attraction. Producers just have to make the cuts to make the stories fit together, and it's a challenging business to make it all come together in a cohesive story.
In the video, Katharine did not reveal what happened with Justin after filming ended for them, but in the comments, it sounds like she said the couple broke up after filming.
