Just as you thought TV ideas couldn’t get any crazier, they do. However, this pilot has me intrigued. It’s all from the POV of a cat, and what’s not to love about that?
The new pilot in the works is called Mittens, according to Deadline. Very little is known about it for now, but this is one of those comedies that I could see working. After all, it’s unique and finally gives a voice to members of the family we’re always wondering about.
The publication breaks down what little is known about the new pilot. Mittens will follow the titular cat, who happens to live in three houses on a cul-de-sac. It doesn’t look like the families know that he goes between the three houses, all likely thinking that he is their pet.
Mittens will narrate the story, telling us all about the three units and what each of them gets up to. It’s through his eyes, so there will be elements of a human lifestyle that probably won’t make much sense to a feline.
That’s it; that’s all that’s known. I’m still here for it. It’s not like storytelling from the eyes of a cat hasn’t been done. Garfield is popular for a reason!

Mittens is still in the pilot stage
It’s worth noting that this series is still in the pilot stages, and there are a fair few pilots in the works this year. ABC has been a little less focused on new shows, especially comedies, lately, but there needs to be something new added to the lineup.
We’re likely to find out if the show will go into development in 2026. Most pilots are picked up to series or canceled around March and April, but there are some that have to wait until May for an answer.
Victor Quinaz will write and executive produce the pilot, with black-ish showrunner Courtney Lilly supervising and executive producing. Warren Littlefield, Lisa Harrison, and Ann Johnson from The Littlefield Co. will also join the executive producing team.
ABC is certainly lacking in the comedy department, with just Shifting Gears and Abbott Elementary in the 2025–2026 TV season. The Scrubs reboot is currently in the works, but that doesn’t rule out the possibility of Mittens airing as well. It’s all going to depend on how the pilot works out, but this is a wild idea that could definitely work and we could use more concept comedies on broadcast.
