911 fans are not happy about the show's bizarre decision to kill off Captain Bobby Nash and the cast are well aware of that. They share the fans' heartache over the decision, with some of them even pitching ways that he could return in the future. And honestly, we'd take it in a heartbeat!
The fan-favorite character, played by Peter Krause, led his iconic 118 into a lab to save lives but they were trapped in there with a deadly virus, which Chimney was exposed to. From there, he helped his colleague and friend get the only antidote as the episode then revealed the shock twist that he was infected too. There, he died while saying goodbye to his beloved wife Athena Grant (played by Angela Bassett).
It was arguably the most traumatic episode of TV this year and it has left fans of the ABC series very, very angry. And that has led to the "bring Bobby back" campaign, as fans beg the show to reverse its mistake and find a particularly outlandish way to revive the character for the upcoming ninth season. It turns out that this movement has reached the stars of the show too, with Angela Bassett herself acknowledging it, all while potentially even teasing a comeback for her beloved TV husband at some point down the line.
Angela Bassett's bring Bobby back response gives 911 fans hope
During a recent appearance on Good Morning America to promote her role in Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning, the Academy Award nominee was asked about Bobby's death on 911. She offered up sympathies to the fans and acknowledged that the cast are feeling Krause's exit too. She also revealed that a fan recently tapped her on the shoulder in London and simply said "Bring Bobby back. Bring Bobby back."
But that's not all, for when she was told of host Robin Roberts' hopes that it was all just a dream sequence, Bassett responded with:
"I know, I know. I mean, listen, it was closed... So, yeah. He could be up to… things."
Bassett was clearly referring to the casket that Bobby was buried in, which fans have taken to meaning that there might be hope that he's still alive somehow. Of course, the Hollywood legend was likely just joking, but to even address the "Bobby is alive" theory on television has given the fans the visibility that they have been hoping for. And this isn't the first time she has offered a hopeful update, previously telling fans to "keep hope alive" that we might see Krause back on the show (even if it was in other capacities like dream sequences).
While it would be hard to pull off an actual return from the dead for Bobby, a show as outlandish as 911 has gotten away with far more insane plots than any potential comeback for a character who seemingly died from a mysterious new virus. This is the show's lore, so it can take control of it and produce a few twists along the way, right?

Although the second part of the 911: Contagion event did show Bobby dying on screen and his body being removed in a body bag, there is a potential loophole there if the show ever wanted to consider bringing him back. Athena had a hard time getting her husband's body released by the government, who were still seemingly performing tests on it to ensure that the virus within him died too, but fans would be willing to believe that Bobby was actually being held for testing this whole time. Of course, all of this would hinge on the notion of him actually being revived by a mystery antidote, so there are a lot of hoops to jump through to pull that off. But again, this is 911 and the fans are open-minded when it comes to things like this.
Whether Bobby returns or not, Athena is in for a very big year in 911 season 9. Bassett doesn't know exactly what that entails as of yet, as the creative team are being vague at the moment, but she has predicted that therapy might be on the horizon, telling the GMA hosts: "I said, OK, I’m going through therapy, I’m processing it, so I’ll wait".
Honestly, same!
