Major spoilers are ahead from 911: Nashville season 1 episode 1.

A tornado hits Nashville
The first episode opens at a country music festival where real-life country singer, Kane Brown, is performing in front of a huge crowd. Suddenly, there's a powerful gust of wind and everything starts falling down. As everyone gets down, we're shown a shot of a massive tornado coming their way.
The episode then cuts to two hours earlier. Captain Don Hart and his son, Ryan, are competing at a rodeo. Don's wife and Ryan's mother, Blythe, shows up in support. They ultimately do a good job, and the crowd goes wild.
Now, we're taken to Fire Station 113, where firefighter and aspiring singer, Taylor, is practicing for an upcoming competition. 911 dispatcher, Cammie, listens to her on FaceTime. Don and Ryan enter the room, and Don confesses to Ryan that there's something he's been meaning to tell him. What could it be? The news reports a big storm coming Nashville's way, so the 113 are preparing.
We then cut to a strip club, where an adult dancer named Blue is performing. Nearby, a group of women celebrating a bachelorette party is riding to the club on a trolley. Suddenly, one of them starts choking, though it turns out she just needed to burp.
Moments later, chaos erupts when the driver somehow exits the vehicle, causing the trolley to crash into another car. The women are thrown from the trolley, and the bride’s leg becomes trapped underneath. Blue witnesses the entire incident and rushes to help, working to stop one woman’s bleeding. Shortly after, Station 113 arrives on the scene and takes over. After receiving fluids, the injured woman regains consciousness. Don notices Blue and stares at him in shock. Does he know him? Apparently so. As Ryan looks between them confused, Don reveals to him that Blue is his brother.
We're then taken back to the fire station. After Don explains to Ryan how Blue is his brother, Ryan is still hesitant about him. Blue shows up basically asking for a job at the station, and Don considers it. The episode then cuts to a child's birthday party. A woman is teaching a young girl how to fly a kite when the kite suddenly carries the child away.
The woman is the young girl’s aunt. She calls Cammie, the 911 dispatcher, who first instructs her to use a tablecloth to catch the girl, but that plan fails. Cammie then tells her to gather several people to hold hands and form a human net. This time, the plan works perfectly!

Ryan confronts Blythe about Blue
Ryan visits Blythe, assuming she’s unaware of Blue’s existence. But to his surprise, she already knows. Blythe explains that Don and Blue’s mother, Dixie, had Blue during a period when she and Don were separated. For a time, Blythe and Don even helped care for Blue, until Dixie eventually stepped in and kept him away from his father.
It's time for us to meet Dixie. We're taken to her home where she talks with Blue. A former singer, Dixie carries an air of bitterness towards Don, toward the past, and maybe even toward the life she never had. She needs surgery and has convinced Blue to insert himself into Don’s life so that they can get money out of him.
The episode then shifts to Fire Station 113, where Don introduces Blue as the station’s newest cadet. The team is caught off guard when they learn he’s actually Don’s son. From there, we return to the country music festival. The timeline has now caught up to the opening scene of the episode. 113 arrives at the festival to see the tornado heading their way.
The team springs into action, rescuing panicked festivalgoers as the storm draws near. Some firefighters rush to help people trapped under the stage’s equipment, working frantically as the weather grows more dangerous. To successfully free the people trapped under the stage equipment, the firefighters, Kane and his team, along with some festivalgoers, must all work together.
While everyone is told to take shelter, Don and Ryan work together to save one last person trapped on stage equipment high in the air. The episode ends with them struggling to reach him as the storm rages closer, leaving viewers on edge about whether the rescue will succeed.
A new episode of 911: Nashville season 1 airs on ABC every Thursday at 9/8c.
