We got 911 and 911: Nashville back from their winter breaks much sooner than normal, and that was great news. However, we knew it was going to come with a disappointing update not long after the return. Sure enough, both shows are not airing new episodes on ABC for a few weeks.
ABC hasn’t been all that upfront about its Winter Olympic plans, but after new episodes of 911 and 911: Nashville on Thursday, Jan. 29, we learned the bad news. ABC would pre-empt the episodes for the duration of the sporting event. The entire ABC lineup is off, with Grey’s Anatomy also going on a break.
While ABC won’t air the Winter Olympics, it is making a smart decision to pull the episodes. There are only two ABC scripted shows airing throughout the Winter Olympics: The Rookie and Will Trent. All other shows have either aired season finales or are going on a lengthy break.
And yes, it does make sense. The Winter Olympics will draw in millions of live viewers. It always does, and it doesn’t make sense for scripted shows to go up against them. ABC isn’t the only network pulling shows. Of course, NBC is pulling everything since it will air the Games, but CBS didn’t even plan for shows to return until after the Closing Ceremony on Sunday, Feb. 22.
When will 911 and 911: Nashville return with new episodes?
So, how long do we need to wait for new episodes? There is some good news in this, as the two shows will return in February. We’ll get an episode of both on Thursday, Feb. 26. This is the first week back after the Winter Olympics have come to an end.
We also get an idea of what to expect, and that’s important considering the cliffhanger 911 season 9 left us on! Christopher has been taken by Abigail, and right now, Eddie doesn’t know. He’s going to find out when the show returns, and it won’t take him too long to figure out what’s happened. Athena will step in to help, but it’s not going to be easy to find this angry young woman, especially as she is clearly leaving messages by stabbing knives into Eddie’s tires!
As for 911: Nashville, that will pick up with Don’s backstory. We learned in the previous episode that the man who tried to call from prison was the man who killed his parents. Now, it’s time for his parole hearing, and Don isn’t sure if he should testify to allow the man make parole or not. He wants revenge, but is he willing to risk it all by taking matters into his own hands, or is he willing to forgive?
911 and 911: Nashville return on Thursday, Feb. 26, starting at 8/7c on ABC.
