Do not get me wrong when I write this, because I adore all Main 8 spirits in Ghosts. However, it really is time for one of them to be “sucked off” in the series.
I don’t really have an opinion on who it should be, except that it can’t be Isaac just yet. While he is one of my least favorites of the Main 8, he still has a lot to learn. If I really had to choose one, then I’d go with Trevor or Sass, but honestly, there’s still a lot of love for all of the Main 8.
That being said, it is time for one of them to go. Not only is this important for the main storytelling of the series, but it’s also going to be important to avoid the storylines getting too stale.

The whole goal is to be ‘sucked off’ in Ghosts
From the beginning of the series, all eight of the main house ghosts have wanted to move on. The term being “sucked off” means that they’re going to the next afterlife stage. Some people have that happen to them right away, while others have to wait, as they learn some important lessons they didn’t learn in life.
When the spirits thought that Flower had gone, they were sad but also happy and jealous. It’s clear that they don’t want to be stuck in this purgatory for much longer.
So, the goal is for them to eventually learn those lessons and move on. To show that they are growing and that Sam and Jay are good for them, we need to see one of them move on. This will also give us an idea of what the others need to learn to have the same thing happen.

It changes the pace of Ghosts a little
Another reason the time has come for one of the main ghosts to be sucked off is, creatively, it will do the series come good. While there are other spirits that can come into the series now and then, there’s only so much that the writers can do. There are still the same main dynamics in the house that the writers tend to fall back on.
By changing the main cast, there’s a change in dynamic. Look at when Flower was missing. Thor had to interact with other spirits in the house more rather than many of his storylines focused on his relationship with her. This helped to add more depth to his character.
This changed when Flower came back, but having one of the Main 8 gone for good would help to change this up permanently. It could even lead to one of the Basement Ghosts coming into the story more, rather than just Nancy.

Sam has a chance to grow as a character
It’s been four years of Ghosts and Sam is still trying to help these eight ghosts. The problem is that she’s stuck in her own toxic traits, barely learning from her own mistakes. How can she possibly help the others when she can’t even help herself?
By managing to help one of the spirits get “sucked off,” Sam has a chance to see how she needs to change. She is slowly seeing that meddling in other people’s lives is a bad thing, but it’s time for her to completely stop and to make it clear to the spirits that they also need to stop.

Sam needs to keep her own morale up in Ghosts
At first, Sam found seeing the spirits as an annoying side effect of her near-death experience. However, she soon came to care for the ghosts, and she saw the ability as a gift. Her idea was that she was given this experience as a chance to help the ghosts move on. The problem is she hasn’t done anything to help them.
One Basement Ghost was “sucked off” after his first kiss, and Sam’s mom disappeared after one conversation with Sam to give her closure. What about the others? Eventually, Sam is going to feel like she’s failing the ghosts. At least, she will when she stops her own selfishness in using them for her financial gain.
As she starts to realize that she’s failing, she’ll lose morale. She needs to see one of them go whether to get a boost in her morale or to remember what she is supposed to be doing!

We need to feel like our time isn’t wasted when Ghosts ends
Right now, Ghosts is showing no sign of slowing down. It’s been renewed through season 6, and that doesn’t mean it will stop there.
However, it eventually has to come to an end. Even with a comedy, we are invested in the characters, and we want to see them succeed. While death is usually viewed as a traumatic and negative thing, the spirits are already dead. Having them move on is what their own goals are, and that means it’s closure for us.
If one of the Main 8 isn’t “sucked off” soon, then it’s going to feel like the series isn’t going anywhere in the main storyline. The characters still need some positive development, and right now, some of the development for the odd Main 8 ghost can seem like it’s getting a bit stale.
Ghosts will return on Thursday, Oct. 15 at 8:30/7:30c on CBS.
