3 most intriguing rooms for Big Brother 27 (and two of the most unnecessary!)

The Big Brother 27 theme has been revealed, and Julie Chen gave us a tour of the new house. The rooms are over the top, but which ones are the most exciting?

Big Brother 27 is premiering this week, and the cast reveal will be just around the corner. Until then, fans have CBS' recent information release to feed off of. That release gave fans information regarding the theme of the season, which is "A Summer of Mystery". They also learned a couple of the general twists for the season, including a masked visitor and a secret accomplice, though we know little about either.

Of course, the twist reveal that has gotten the most people talking is the reveal that a mystery houseguest will be joining the cast. While we do not know the identity, Julie Chen claims it is a polarizing figure, leaving fans to assume the player will be a returnee. This, of course, has been as polarizing among the fanbase as the cast member reportedly is.

The one final reveal from the Big Brother 27 press release and info drop is the new house tour. The theme of the rooms perfectly matches the season and is honestly one of the more striking designs in recent memory. They absolutely committed to the part. This leaves us to ask, which rooms hold the most intrigue? And which are just doing too much? What are your thoughts?

There are three rooms that especially feel as though they bring a special level of intrigue and excitement, thanks to the possibility of twists, chaos, strategy, or drama that could play out in there. What will producers build into the house itself, as they have suggested, will be the case? What mystery do these rooms hold for the houseguests?

1. The Reception Area

Typically, the reception area has very little to do with much of anything. In fact, the only times we really see much of it are when someone is walking in or out of the house, or if there happens to be a challenge that involves clues around the entire house. That could change this year, though, thanks to a wall of 75 key boxes and many skeleton keys. Given that the first promo released involved a wall of keys, it seems logical to assume that many possible clues could surround this mysterious segment of the house.

2. Venom Lounge and Poison Bar

Yes, this appears to simply be the upstairs hangout spot with the chess set that we have all grown accustomed to, which, outside of whispered strategy sessions, often has little to do with production. That said, I just cannot believe that the poison bar will have no role to play in the season at some point. That appears way too played out to simply be decoration. Add in the wall of portraits that, at minimum, will likely connect to a challenge, if not be hiding something more interesting, and color me fully intrigued.

3. Secretive Wine Cellar

Yes, I realize that the wine in this "wine cellar" is not real, although I imagine the havoc that could ensue if it were. Still, there is something about the concept of a wine cellar in reality television that implies some secrets lie within (just ask The Traitors!). This room will surely be used for some great strategizing, but something about it tells me there is a lot more than meets the eye. A possible hidden staircase or room? Clues to some form of advantage? I guess we will just have to tune in and see.

Two Big Brother 27 rooms that are just doing too much

Of course, while the rooms are certainly eye-popping, not all of them will be hiding something exciting and mysterious. Sometimes, rooms are just rooms. While technically every room could possibly have clues tied to them, to me, these two rooms are simply unnecessarily over the top and could have been brought down a peg without having any negative implications on the visual impact or overall season theming.

1. Attic Bedroom of Oddities

Listen, I get the concept of the attic bedroom in connection with the older, clue game-style aesthetic that Big Brother 27 is going for. But for a regular bedroom, this is just so much and pretty overwhelming. They could have taken about 25 artifacts away and strung half the ropes through the ceiling as they did, and still succeeded at giving the look they were going for. Plus, the layout of these beds makes me think people are going to be climbing over each other all night. No, thank you.

2. Victorian Conservatory Lounge

It appears this is the room that usually has the canopy-style couch and pretty much nothing else, the room the houseguests often scheme in. Why, then, does it look like a bathroom? Is there a need for four bathroom sinks to give off a conservatory look? And if it is the bathroom, that might be even worse. In either case, there is too much going on here, and none of it is crucial or adding any value. I love a plant room as much as the next, but at some point, there can be too much of a good thing.

Big Brother 27 will premiere on Thursday, July 10 at 8/7c on CBS or Paramount+ with a 90-minute episode, and a second 90-minute episode on Sunday, July 13 at 8/7c. The live feeds that fans know and love will be available to watch on Paramount+ and Pluto TV.

As is the case with all Big Brother seasons, there will be three episodes per week, on Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday. All air at 8/7c to start the season, though that may change at some point. For the first time, there will also be special "Big Brother: Unlocked" analysis shows featuring previous players, which will air every other Friday, starting July 25 at 8/7c.

Tune in to catch all the drama and watch the secrets of the house reveal themselves, and meet the cast that will hopefully make Big Brother 27 one of the best modern-era seasons yet.
