3 glaring flaws Age of Attraction season 2 needs to fix

I would love to see Netflix fix these issues heading into Age of Attraction season 2.

Age of Attraction season 2 is already in the works after a solid first season on Netflix. There's no doubt that the show has a lot of great qualities, but there are a few major flaws that, if fixed, could definitely improve the show.

I enjoyed the laidback start to the series at a beautiful resort in Whistler, British Columbia. We watched these six couples fall in love and then see if they could make things work. This series offers a refreshing departure from the typical Netflix reality shows.

In a Netflix statement about the season 2 renewal, executive producers Rebecca Quinn and Jennifer O'Connell said, "The response has been incredible, and we’re excited to push it even further in Season 2."

Well, I have three ideas about how to improve some of Age of Attraction's big flaws, starting with the promise room.

We need a more fun way to reveal the ages and age gap

For those who don't remember, Age of Attraction's premise is built around one rule. These contestants can date and get to know each other, but they are forbidden from revealing their ages until the promise room, where they decide to continue dating or break up.

I'm not going to lie; those age reveals were kind of underwhelming in the presentation. Like, the contestants were quite vulnerable, but the stakes are so low. I want to see something like Love is Blind when they see each other for the first time after getting engaged. The age reveal and age gap needs to be a bigger deal. Maybe, we could make the contestants guess in a Price is Right-style? Maybe, we could include a game show element to the reveal?

There just has to be a bigger hook or some mystery. Maybe, the couples agree to move on to the next part of the show, and there's an age reveal ceremony at a later date? So, there's a little bit of time and space between the agreement and the reveal like there is in Love is Blind. That could add a layer of drama that we need.

We need more real-world connections

One of the things that I like about Love is Blind is how the show focuses on people from a specific location, city, or region. It allows the show to add a real-world component to the series that Age of Attraction is lacking.

Age of Attraction flies singles from all over the United States to Canada for the entire show. Then, at the end, they all go their separate ways. Some couples tried to make the long-distance thing work, but it didn't work out. I feel like we'd get a much more authentic look at what real life would feel like for these contestants if we just had people from Dallas or Southern California or Chicago or something specific location.

Then, we'd get to see how real life looks for them, how their friends actually feel about them, how their family treats them, and more. Instead, we got these little snippets of real life that didn't quite translate on screen.

The reunion was terrible and needs to be fixed

Reality TV reunions are always a mess. I can't think of one show that has really mastered the reunion in a way that's perfect, 10/10, no notes, you know? The Age of Attraction season 1 reunion was one of the worst I've seen in a long time.

The Viall Files is great for some things, but reunions is not one of them. It felt too much like a podcast episode. There was no format. It was just a lot of chatting and chatting and chatting and chatting about things we didn't really care about. It's not really Nick Viall or Natalie Joy's fault, but the pace just needed to be quicker. We needed some editing. We needed to not listen to three hours of rambling.

Three hours is truly so long for a reunion. There was only like eight hours of content that we saw from the season. How can you spend three additional hours talking about things without going into specifics? We just wanted the gossip and the drama, not whatever that was.

So, if Age of Attraction season 2 wants to improve on the show's first season, these three areas are a great place to start. Overall, I really enjoyed the show, but I need higher stakes, especially as more and more people will be looking to join the series for their 15 minutes of fame.
