While the future of The Bachelor franchise remains in limbo, more questions about whether it should continue have come up with the recent news. Yet another couple has broken up, highlighting flaws within the dating series.
Us Weekly confirms that Grant Ellis and Juliana Pasquarosa have decided to end their engagement. They were both on The Bachelor season 29. Yes, the most recent season of the flagship series!
The two shared respectful updates on their own social media platforms. There is no anger between them, and the two did attempt to make a long-term relationship work. In the end, they realized that they couldn’t form a life together, but that they wish each other well for the future.
They continue to share that the relationship they formed on The Bachelor was a meaningful and real one. It’s been since getting to the real world outside that things started to change for them.
Take a look at both of their statements:
“There’s no negativity here, no resentment [and] just two people who care about each other and want the best for one another moving forward. “I’ll always be grateful for what we shared and for the growth that came with it. Thank you to everyone who supported us and believed in our journey. This chapter is closing, but we’re both walking away with love and respect in our hearts.”
-- Grant
“Marriage is a commitment, and it’s one we both still believe in deeply. After a lot of honest conversations and reflection, we’ve come to the decision that this chapter of our lives is meant to continue on separate paths. We shared something meaningful, navigating a unique journey side by side [and] learning, growing and showing up for each other the best we knew how. While this isn’t the ending we once imagined, it’s one filled with mutual respect, care and hope for what’s ahead.”
-- Juliana
With another couple broken up, it does bring up questions about whether the franchise as a whole is successful. There are only 10 couples reportedly still together from the beginning of the franchise, which has seen 29 seasons of The Bachelor and 21 seasons of The Bachelorette.
The Bachelor couples still together are:
Sean Lowe and Catherine Giudici
Jason and Molly Mesnick
Arie Luyendyk Jr. and Lauren Burnham
Zach Shallcross and Kaity Biggar
Joey Graziadei and Kelsey Anderson
The Bachelorette couples still reportedly together are:
Trista and Ryan Sutter
Desiree Hartsock and Chris Siegfried
JoJo Fletcher and Jordan Rodgers
Jesse and Ann Csincsak
Charity Lawson and Dotun Olubeko
Of course, marriage has to be taken seriously, and if the couples realize they're not right for each other, they need to walk away. It does beg the question of how the casting gets things so wrong for so many couples to break up, though.
The two shows have not yet been renewed by ABC, and it has led to concerns that they will be canceled. While there is still interest in the series itself, there are a lot of questions regarding the series and how it sets up relationships for the future. However, ABC has made it clear that the shows are not canceled and are just on hold for now.
It looked like we would get a season 22 of The Bachelorette for a while, and then ABC suddenly made the decision that we wouldn’t get a season at all this year. It’s not the first time the show has skipped a season, nor is it the first time any of the Bachelor Nation franchise has skipped a year. It is concerning, though, especially with yet another couple breaking up.
