As Chicago Fire season 13 came to a close, we had two series regulars confirmed as leaving. Then during the summer, we learned Michael Bradway also wouldn’t return to the series. It didn’t take long for Chicago Fire season 14 to confirm where Jack Damon was.

During the summer hiatus, Bradway found himself in a position a lot of actors love and hate being in. He landed a role in a new series, which meant that he couldn’t be available to film Chicago Fire, and there was only one way to handle that. Damon had to be written out.

Jack Damon is just with another firehouse in Chicago Fire

The good news is that nothing permanent has happened to Severide’s younger half-brother. In the Chicago Fire season 14 premiere, Mouch mentioned to Ritter that Damon had landed a permanent role at another firehouse.

Throughout season 13, there were questions about Damon’s future with the CFD. At first, he was happy at Firehouse 51, but it was soon clear that his relationship with Severide was going to be a problem, especially for Kidd. And so, Damon was sent to a new firehouse, where there were other issues, leading to him coming back to Firehouse 51.

It’s possible that if it weren’t for Bradway’s new role, he would have been back at Firehouse 51. While Bardway hadn’t been upped to series regular, that wouldn’t rule out the chance of it happening in the future, had the fates aligned. When he landed another series, the writers had to find a way to write him out, and I feared that he’d end up suffering from medical issues.

You see, at the end of Chicago Fire season 13, he was left behind accidentally in a fire, and he suffered lung damage from that. There was a chance that he was going to be medically let go from the CFD, but it sounds like he’s made a full recovery and he’s just now with another firehouse.

This leaves the door open for Michael Bradway’s return

When it was announced that Damon wouldn’t return to Chicago Fire season 14, it was made clear that this didn’t have to be permanent. We knew that Damon wouldn’t be killed off, but it still didn’t tell us that he’d be part of the CFD still.

Now we know that he’s out there, working with other firefighters. Should Bradway’s schedule open up, it would allow him to return to the series, even for a one-episode guest spot. After all, Firehouse 51 has worked with other firehouses in the past, and it’s not like we haven’t seen Damon work with another firehouse and run into Severide and the others.

Chicago Fire airs on Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC.
