The future of the hit CW/Canadian procedural drama, Wild Cards remains in the air as The CW still hasn't decided whether to renew it beyond its season 2 status.

While the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, or the CBC, has renewed it for seasons 3 and 4 back in May this year, the American network left it at a standstill. A few months later, we're still waiting for any updates that will determine its fate.

Let's face it: the glory days of The CW, when it created engaging and fun programming that suited everyone's taste, are long gone. Wild Cards was the last one of the era, and eliminating it from the network would be the final curtain call of original content. It's such a shame, too, because the stuff that was offered wasn't just entertainment; much of it impacted people's lives

I still miss many of the original shows, such as The 100, Reign, and, for its odd storytelling choices, Riverdale. I'd like to think that Wild Cards is a stretch of that, as Vanessa Morgan, who stars in the crime drama, portrayed Tony Topaz on Riverdale. The shows are subconsciously linked, so it'll be a shame if Wild Cards were to tumble off the network.

Wild Cards' fate still remains in the air on The CW

There is still some hope for Wild Cards, as interest recently surfaced online, thanks to a fan question that was answered by Matt Webb Mitovich on TVLine. They asked that, since the Vanessa Morgan-led series is a co-production between the CBC and The CW, they inquired whether the latter has picked it up.

Unfortunately, Webb revealed that there are no updates at this time. But the good news is that it's not completely out of the woods. This means that we should keep our eyes and ears open for any new breath on Wild Cards.

"I ask and I ask [The CW], and… no updates. (Then again, they haven’t said 'no,' per se. Take the temporary win!)."

As we head into the fall, the beloved drama will not be on the primetime schedule, but I'm not erasing my hope for the midseason block, as that's when season 2 premiered. The finale was released on The CW in May. It might be the same circumstance for season 3 if the network is continuing to follow the pattern.

Until we get an official answer about Wild Cards being ordered by The CW for its third and fourth seasons, the first two seasons can be streamed on The CW app for free.
