During James Van Der Beek's impressive career, the beloved actor has starred in some great shows and movies. Of course, James is best known for his time starring in the classic teen drama series Dawson's Creek. While his film career gets a lot less attention, James has also starred in movies like Varsity Blues and The Rules of Attraction, which were embraced by fans.
Without taking anything away from any of James' most talked-about past roles, one of the actor's rarely spoken about acting achievements surpassed almost all of his other performances. Even when compared to everything else he has accomplished during his lengthy acting career, James' Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 performance deserves to be celebrated a lot more.

Why James Van Der Beek's Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 is so underrated
Of course, what makes one show better than another is always going to be in the eye of the beholder. That is why it is so fun to look at things like lists of the best comedies to watch. That said, it is extremely hard to imagine how anyone could watch how fearless and hilarious James Van Der Beek's Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 performance was and not be blown away by how great he was.
Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 was a often shocking sitcom that aired on ABC for 2 seasons from 2012 to 2014. While the show starred Dreama Walker's naive character, June, and Krysten Ritter's manipulative and conniving character, Chloe, it was James' supporting role that arguably was the most remarkable.
Cast as a fictional version of himself, Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23's version of James was nothing like what is known about the actor and the other roles he has played in the past. Instead of having a heart of gold, the show's version of James was utterly self-obsessed, often debaucherous, and delightfully over-the-top.
While it may seem like portraying such a grandiose version of himself should have been easy for James, the reality seems like that would have been anything but the case for several reasons. Most importantly, it would have been difficult for the actor to get the balance right between committing to the role and not going so far that viewers disengaged. He also needed to find comedic chops that he had never been known for before that. Finally, James had to cope with how portraying such an outrageous version of himself could have affected his ego, which is something everyone has.
Fortunately, James managed to be absolutely hilarious in his Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 role because he seemed to hit the perfect note every time. In the past, a Dawson's Creek revival was in the works. While that would be fun to see, I would be much more excited if Don't Trust the B---- in Apartment 23 was brought back with James involved. Since I choose to believe that James' acting career isn't over, that could hopefully happen in the future.
