The wait has been long for CBS shows, but it’s slowly coming to an end. February 2026 marks the return of a number of shows, but not all of them. Watson is one of those currently on the list waiting to return.

Now, part of this is just due to the way the days fall. Another part is that CBS is moving the show to another night, disrupting when it would have returned.

Watson will return in March 2026

In some good news, there isn’t too much longer left to wait for the return of Watson season 2. It will return on Sunday, March 1. The long delay is linked to the Winter Olympics, which come to an end on Sunday, Feb. 22. As there are only 28 days in the month, it’s easy to see how it’s just the way the days fall that pushes the show into March!

Yes, the show is moving back to Sunday nights, and it’s going to be at the later time of 10/9c. It will still follow Tracker, as that show is being pushed back an hour to make way for the Yellowstone spinoff series, Marshals.

Why couldn’t it remain on Mondays? CBS is making way for CIA, which will air after FBI. This was always the initial plan, so we shouldn’t be surprised by the move.

This is a worrying timeslot. Watson is the only current scripted drama not to land a renewal — the likes of Marshals and CIA don’t count as they’ve not premiered yet — and the move to the 10/9c slot suggests that it won’t be renewed. After all, this is the timeslot that has killed many shows in recent years, including Madam Secretary, NCIS: Los Angeles, and The Equalizer.

What to expect when Watson returns

We do have a few details about the midseason premiere, including the fact that John Watson will need to deal with the trauma from his past.

Watson has faced a lot in his life, including trauma from his time in the Army and the fact that he had to handle his friend betraying him. There is still a lot of baggage from Shinwell working with Moriarty, and that’s sure to come up as the show returns. Maybe we’ll find out if Sherlock is just a figment of his imagination or not.

As for the medical mystery of the week, it’s a case of flesh-eating bacteria doing the rounds. The team will need to get to the root of the cause if they want to stop the bacteria from spreading.

Watson season 2 returns on Sunday, March 1 at 10/9c on CBS.
