Just a few hours away and The Rookie on ABC will be returning for its eighth season on Tuesday, Jan. 6!
We're more than ready to welcome back our favorite LAPD heroes, as it's been a hot minute since we last saw crime unfold. And the premiere, "Czech Mate," gets right down to the scheme of things.
In a turn of events, a few LAPD members, including Officer John Nolan and his wife, Bailey Nune, will be traveling to Europe, specifically Prague, Czech Republic. The goal of this mission is to capture some of the world's most dangerous terrorists, but the law officials are teaming up with the notorious Monica Stevens, who caused quite a splash in the season 7 finale.
ABC dropped the synopsis for the season 8 premiere below, ahead of its January 6 air date.
"The LAPD, FBI, and Interpol work with Monica Stevens in Prague to target high-value terrorists operating within and outside the United States."
Of course, don't expect this International getaway to be purely relaxing and recreational, as there's significant work to be done! Officer Nolan and Bailey might use their time in a romantic setting once the drama has settled.
Nathan Fillion and Jenna Dewan open up about what's next for John and Bailey
Speaking with People recently, Nathan Fillion and Jenna Dewan spoke of what's next for their characters and what their European adventure would entail. It's going to 'feel different' because John and Bailey are based in Los Angeles for their respective careers. Going global for a case, even for a significant assignment, will surely have a few obstacles, but will also defy time from a new perspective.
Dewan further elaborated on the relocation with the publication.
“[Going to Prague] felt different. It was amazing. We had an incredible time. You feel like you are back in time. It just felt so special. It felt like we were in the midst of a film, an action film. It was so cool.”
For his part, Fillion commented that filming the season 8 premiere in the Czech Republic felt cinematic and noted his wardrobe change. I guess anything's better than wearing a police officer's uniform. But no matter the garment, the
"It felt like a James Bond movie. It really did. I wasn't wearing a cop uniform — I was wearing a suit. I felt very fancy. And we're walking in these incredible squares and beside these beautiful rivers."
Aside from the criminal crackdown, Prague also offered a second chance at a honeymoon, since John and Bailey's first hadn't gone as romantically planned. It provided an open door to renew their committed love and union as a couple.
"This one [trip] felt like, well, while we're here, let's make this romantic because how can you not?" teased Dewan. "[There's] lots of unexpected yet bonding adrenaline between [John and Bailey]."
The Rookie season 8 premieres on Tuesday, Jan. 6, on ABC at 10 PM /9 PM CT, with next day streaming on Hulu.
