In the modern television landscape, there are very few shows that have viewers who are as invested as the biggest The Rookie fans. Fortunately for fans of the ABC police procedural drama series, many moments from The Rookie which first aired in 2025 reminded fans why they love the show. On top of that, there has been a lot of excitement about The Rookie season 8 since viewers have high hopes for what they want to see, like underrated characters potentially being spotlighted.
Since there is so much interest in The Rookie, every new tease of what is to come during the show's upcoming 8th season has been tantalizing. At least, that was the case until the latest tease, which was a trailer that I believe was problematic for a simple reason. Even though the trailer is just over two minutes long, it revealed far too much and left me feeling like I've already watched half the season.

The Rookie Season 8's new trailer gives away far too much
In November 2025, a trailer for The Rookie season 8 was released that was perfect. It teased the return of a popular character, gave very sparse information about the show's future, and made viewers laugh. On the other hand, the season 8 trailer that was released in December 2025 revealed a staggering number of details about the upcoming season.
On top of showing footage from The Rookie's upcoming international mission, the trailer revealed many other future plot points. For example, it is now known that Bailey Nune gets offered a job in Washington, leaving John Nolan to consider a transfer. It is also clear that Tim Bradford asks Lucy Chen to move in with him, and Wade Grey worries his wife is cheating him.
Viewers also know that some of the show's beloved characters will be surveilled, and the cartel will be an ongoing issue. If all that wasn't enough, the trailer also highlighted Nolan having to interact with Oscar Hutchinson yet again. Amazingly enough, there are even more reveals in the trailer than the ones named above.
Many of those upcoming plot points would have been enough to make The Rookie fans very interested in what is to come. For example, if the trailer only teased Tim asking Lucy to move in with him, Chenford fans would be overjoyed even though she is shown questioning their relationship. As a result, that alone could have been enough to make the trailer worthwhile. In that case, fans could have been surprised by several of The Rookie season 8's upcoming storylines. Sadly, however, a lot of the major plot points for the upcoming season have now been confirmed.
While there will definitely still be a lot of excitement about where each of those storylines will ultimately go, I firmly believe the trailer unnecessarily spoiled far too much about what is to come. As a result, I would advise any The Rookie fan who cares about spoilers to steer clear of watching the trailer.
The Rookie season 8 premieres Tuesday, January 6 on ABC.
