The Rookie writers have been busy getting ready for the upcoming eighth season since season 7 left us hanging on a couple of cliffhangers. While we're delighted to see what the next romantic chapter for Chenford will unfold and what Monica Stevens's return might mean for the LAPD, one member might be getting a career upgrade!

Throughout its tenure on ABC, the crime drama has been generous in promoting its characters. For instance, Lucy Chen aced her sergeant's exam, moving up from her previous rank as training officer. We saw her stressed about it, and with the new job, came new responsibilities such as working the night shift, which posed a new round of challenges.

Now, it's Wesley Evers' turn to experience the expanding pay scale. As you know, or you don't know if you haven't watched The Rookie, Evers is an assistant district attorney who regularly works with the LAPD. He witnessed some pretty hardcore crimes, all the while digging deep for the motives and deciding on what would be a fair punishment for the perpetrators.

According to TVLine, creator Alexi Hawley has revealed that Evers will try to claim the lucrative and exciting role of district attorney. But he's not doing it for the pay, but to help reshape the justice system and untangle its messy knots.

"That’s a fair question to ask,” he said. “The writer's room literally started yesterday [April 14], but we’re sniffing around a bit of where to take that story, and it would certainly make sense for Wesley, who was a defense attorney and believes very strongly in righting the wrongs of an [unjust] justice system. He’s an assistant DA; they [do not have] a ton of power, so becoming the DA would give him the ability to shake things up. So, we’re definitely kicking the tires on that idea."

While this is great news for Evers because who doesn't want to change the world in a more fair and positive light? The bad news for us fans is that we have to wait until 2026 when the show returns in the ABC midseason schedule to see if Evers will get his dream job. If you ask me, I believe that he should, as he'll be professionally aggressive in his role. It will also mean extra income for his family, whom he started with his wife, Detective Angela Lopez. The couple shares two young children, and despite having busy schedules, they make time for their little ones.

It's also worth noting that if Evers gets the promotion, it might cause a flux in his personal life. However, The Rookie has done a superior job of aligning personal and professional circumstances into their narratives. Still, it's going to be interesting to watch how Evers and Angela will balance their loads and whether any obstacles will be careening toward their goals and relationship.

In any case, Evers will combat the possible upcoming obstacles with a set mind and focus, just like he had in the past.
