It seems that The Masked Singer’s temporary shift to one season a year might not be so temporary after all.
When announcing its fall schedule for the 2026-27 television season, Fox confirmed that The Masked Singer season 15 will not premiere in the fall. This not only means fans will again have to wait until midseason for a new season of the hit celebrity singing competition series but also that the show will once again produce just one season during the television season rather than doing a season in both the fall and the spring.
This is a move we've seen several long-running hit series make over the years, including Dancing with the Stars, which ran for several years, producing two seasons before shifting to the one-season-a-year format. It's possible that The Masked Singer could return to the two-seasons-a-year approach down the line, but for the second consecutive season fans will only be getting one new season of the show, which will arrive at midseason.
Interestingly, the decision to hold season 15 for 2027 is somehow not the biggest piece of news about the plans for season 15.
Season 15 will be the first season of the show that will be produced by Eureka Productions, which is taking over production from Fox Entertainment Studios. With this change to the production banner, Eureka Productions is looking to make a major shift in moving production from the West Coast to the East Coast.
Every season of The Masked Singer has been filmed in Los Angeles, but the goal seems to be to move production to New Jersey for tax incentives that can help with production costs. Not only would this move to the East Coast help reduce production costs, but it would also open up the casting pool for the show by potentially bringing in celebrities with commitments that make filming in LA difficult.
Case in point, there is a stronger chance we could see Broadway icons and stars from East Coast-based productions join the cast in season 15. It would certainly bring about an influx of talented new singers and shake up the casting pool in a positive way by allowing the show to attract stars that might not otherwise have been able to compete on the show.
The one thing that this move from LA to New Jersey could result in is a potential shakeup to the show's judging panel and host, as it's unclear whether any member of the cast might need to step away if the production relocates. At this time, no changes have been announced, so we'll have to wait to see if Nick Cannon remains on as host and if Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Ken Jeong, Robin Thicke, and Rita Ora will all return as panelists.
We should learn more about the exact plans for season 15 as we get closer to production beginning later this year.
