Are you in the need of a new comedy? Tracy Morgan certainly thinks so, and we’re on the side of agreeing with him. The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins is set to arrive in February.
Well, it was, and now there’s a special premiere date. The new NBC comedy will air its first episode in January, and then it will take a break until the return timeslot in February. It all makes sense, though, and it could help this comedy succeed.
The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins will premiere after a major NFL game
Get Sunday, Jan. 18 in your diary. Yes, that’s this Sunday! NBC has opted to put the premiere of The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins on after the Rams vs. Bears game, which will air on the same channel.
This is a common approach by networks. In fact, Best Medicine aired on FOX a little earlier than expected, taking advantage of a strong position on Sunday, Jan. 4 after a string of games. We’ll also see the same thing happen with Memory of a Killer on FOX, airing after the AFC Championship Game on Sunday, Jan. 24.
These special premieres can certainly help shows. Matlock, Tracker, and The Equalizer all benefitted from big pushes straight after major games — some of them Super Bowls, but not all of them. So, NBC has a good plan in mind, even with the long break afterward. There will be more people watching straight after the big game, and this leads to more people thinking about it when it does return after the Winter Olympics.
The premise of the show is also perfect for a post-football slot. The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins follows Morgan as the titular character, a disgraced former football player, who is trying to get his life back on track.
When will The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins return after the special premiere?
The bad news is that there will be a break before the second episode. In some good news, NBC knows that this could cause a problem, so the plan for the two-episode premiere on Monday, Feb. 23 hasn’t changed. The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins will rebroadcast its pilot at 8/7c, and then the second episode will air at 8:30/7:30c.
The latter timeslot is going to be the regular one. It will air after St. Denis Medical, which returns on Monday, March 2, after a short Winter Olympics break (episodes are currently airing with Stumble reruns afterward).
The Fall and Rise of Reggie Dinkins will premiere on Sunday, Jan. 18 after the NFL game, and will then air on Mondays from Monday, Feb. 23 on NBC.
