The Chosen season 5 finally has a premiere date… just not for The CW

We know when The Chosen season 5 will be coming, we just don't know when (or if) the show will still arrive on The CW.

Following a theatrical run, The Chosen season 5 will soon be available to watch from the comfort of your home… just not where you might be expecting.

While the show has been broadcasting stateside on The CW, season 5 will be premiering exclusively on Prime Video on June 15 with the first two episodes of the season as part of a two-episode premiere event. The next three episodes will then release on June 22, while the final three episodes of the season will drop on June 29. This will follow a similar structure to the show’s theatrical release, which saw The Chosen: Last Supper debuting as three parts in the weeks ahead of the Easter holiday.

Not only will the show be streaming on Prime Video in the US beginning this June, but the new season will also be releasing in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Sub-Saharan Africa, the UK, and Latin America – though fans in these regions will need to wait until July to stream the new season. Until season 5 drops, fans can always enjoy the first four seasons of The Chosen on Prime Video.

The Chosen’s future on The CW remains uncertain

Interestingly, while The Chosen season 5 will be streaming on Prime Video, it was The CW that first brought the show to primetime, becoming the broadcast home to the series’ first four seasons. Fans had expected that season 5 would be released on The CW sometime this year, but The Chosen’s future on The CW has been thrust into uncertainty now that Prime Video has inked a deal with 5&2 Studiosto land the streaming rights to the show, including its final two seasons.

With Prime Video becoming the streaming home to the show, it’s unclear whether The CW will still be able to broadcast the fifth season. Should The CW air The Chosen season 5, it’s likely that the season will not arrive until sometime in the fall, perhaps in September or October 2025 – but that’s if the network lands the broadcast rights for season 5 and continues to be the home for the show outside of the streaming platform.

We’re entering the final chapters of the show’s run, with season 5 adapting the story of the Last Supper, paving the way for season 6’s focus on the crucifixion of Jesus and season 7 telling the story of his resurrection. Needless to say, fans likely already know what to expect from the season, which continues to pull inspiration from scripture in adapting the life story of Jesus and his disciples, but here’s the official synopsis for the upcoming fifth season:

The Chosen: Last Supper follows Jesus' triumph to treachery as his final days unfold in a story that changed the world. Welcomed as a king into Jerusalem, he boldly confronts the corrupt merchants, sparking a chain of events that shakes the city. While religious leaders scramble to silence his growing influence, Jesus shares one last meal with his closest followers. But in the shadows, Judas makes a deal that seals both their fates. In a tale of power, faith, and betrayal that echoes through time – one man's ultimate sacrifice becomes humanity's greatest story.”

While it’s great to know that The Chosen season 5 is going to be coming to Prime Video in June, we’re optimistic that The CW will still be able to remain the broadcast home to the series. It’s been great to see The Chosen getting the chance to reach so many viewers via unique platforms with homes both on streaming and broadcast.
