SWAT Exiles newbie reportedly will have beef with an original SWAT character

SWAT Exiles character details bring us some arguably unexpected news.
“Hostages” – SWAT’s anti-terror sting operation at a bus station is thrown into chaos when volatile felons, fleeing the police, burst in and take the bus station hostage. Hondo and the team must play along, maintaining their cover as hostages while they work to ferret out the terrorist in their midst. While the hype for SWAT Exiles has dipped a little, there are still some details that we need to explore. One of those details is the fact that a new character will have beef with Hondo.

In a way, the idea of a character having beef with Hondo isn’t that surprising. There needs to be tension on this new team, and it’s easy writing to make it about Hondo, especially with him coming out of retirement to train this untested team.

Who will it be, and what will it mean for the start of the series? That’s something we get to take a look at.

Open Season
“Open Season” – 20-Squad must race to uncover a dangerous enemy intent on revenge. Also, Deacon and Tan butt heads over Tan’s changes to SWAT academy, on S.W.A.T., Friday, Jan. 31 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+. Series star Jay Harrington directs. Pictured: Shemar Moore as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson. Photo: Bill Inoshita/Sony Pictures Television/CBS Broadcasting, Inc. All Rights Reserved.

Who has a problem with Hondo in SWAT Exiles?

When TVLine shared the tease that one of the team members would have beef with Hondo, we didn’t get to know who exactly. There is one character that stands out the most as the likely suspect.

It’s all about the former Marine from South Central. Hondo is also a former Marine, so it’s possible that the two could have crossed paths at some point. We also know that Hondo’s nephew is now in the Marines, and there was a storyline involving one of his nephew’s training officers in SWAT season 8. Is it possible that the recruit was linked to that storyline?

Another likely suspect is the undercover cop with a questionable shooting from the past. Making a bad call with a shot is something that would likely stand out to Hondo. Is it possible that they crossed paths? Could Hondo have found out about the questionable shooting and been involved in looking into it?

These are the two most likely ones to have beef with Hondo, but he is a man with his own strong opinions. Maybe there’s been some sort of beef with the “influencer” because of the type of job she was doing for the LAPD, or maybe he had a run-in with the recruit with a lack of social skills.

Human Interest
“Human Interest” – Tan is left reeling when his girlfriend is kidnapped, and 20-Squad must race to track down a violent cartel leader who may be behind the abduction, on S.W.A.T., Friday, Nov. 15 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. The SWAT spinoff is sure to set up tension for the group

SWAT Exiles is going to see Hondo called back to the force to help with a new and untested team. There are still a lot of questions about why he had retired in the first place, especially since he was forced into retirement. However, it’s clear that he’s not too happy about being asked to come back, and he’s going to struggle with this new generation of SWAT.

Does there need to be tension with one of the team members for past actions as well? This will help to add another layer to the story, bringing a bit of a reminder of what it was like for Hondo and Street, when Street came into the team wanting to prove himself. I just worry that this type of storyline has already been overused in the world of crime dramas.

SWAT Exiles is currently in pre-production and doesn’t have a network attached to it yet.
