Suits: LA canceled after just one season on NBC (and we're not shocked)

It's not good news for the Suits spinoff series, as NBC has ended Suits: LA.

NBC is cleaning up its schedule ahead of the Upfronts, and things aren't looking good for many bubble shows. Suits: LA is one of the latest to end up canceled, and it comes after just one season.

Suits: LA was picked up to series last year, after the success of Suits when it dropped on Netflix. The renewed interest in the legal series led to questions about whether it was time to bring a revival or a spinoff. While it may have been, Suits: LA just didn't quite hit the mark.

It's not that surprising to find out that the series has been canceled after just one season. This was one of those shows that was expected to perform extremely well considering the Suits interest. NBC put a lot of time into the promotion of the series, and that was followed by some big returns from the OG show.

None of that helped with the Sunday linear ratings. The series premiere had middling numbers, and then those numbers dropped off quickly. Even the three hours of reruns on a Thursday night (when the Law & Orders and Found) took a break wasn't enough to help boost the linear figures.

Suits: LA wasn't on its own with struggling linear ratings on Sunday night. Grosse Pointe Garden Society also failed to find its viewership, but that series was moved to Friday nights, and the jury is still out at the time of writing this.

On top of this, Suits: LA didn't have the same feel as the original series. It was almost like the inclusion of the original cast was more of an afterthought, with the initial focus being on the new characters.

The series followed Ted Black, who went from being a federal prosecutor in New York to an entertainment lawyer in Los Angeles. He headed one of the biggest firms until there was a coup, with the majority of his staff leaving with his former friend and business partner to a new firm.

A cancellation always brings the question of saving the show. It doesn't look like that's going to happen, as Deadline doesn't say if the series is going to be shopped around.

With the middling linear ratings, it's unlikely that it will be saved, but it could depend on the international viewership. The streaming figures on Peacock weren't great, but Peacock isn't an intentional streamer Of course, if it isn't being shopped around, there is no chance of it being saved.

Suits: LA will air its now series finale on Sunday, May 18 at 9/8c on NBC.
