After a hilariously funny first season, St. Denis Medical is set to return with its second installment this fall on NBC. Season 2 is confirmed for a November 2025 premiere, with new episodes airing on Mondays. As we await the new season, more exciting information is starting to trickle in about the next batch of episodes.
TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich recently shared some inside scoop about St. Denis Medical season 2, including details about what some of the episodes will entail. According to Mitovich, he learned from St. Denis Medical co-creator and showrunner Eric Ledgin that the second season of the workplace comedy will include some storylines outside the hospital. Season 1 primarily took place in the fictional St. Denis hospital, but season 2 is set to expand the setting by following the staff to other locations for a few episodes.
In fact, Mitovich says that he learned from Ledgin that one potential episode will follow the doctors as they attend a medical conference. However, Ledgin made clear that these new settings will still fit within the show’s documentary-style format. Also, the "out-of-hospital" scenes will still be connected to the doctors' professional roles rather than being casual or purely personal outings. Ledgin tells Mitovich that the idea is to show how the characters behave when they’re out in the world but still in a professional or semi-professional setting.
"That said, episodes that take place outside the walls of St. Denis — one potential ep will follow the docs to a medical conference, for instance — will still make sense within the show’s documentary conceit. [We’re] not necessarily going home with our people, but just getting out into the world and seeing a bit of how they behave when they’re not in the confines of work. It’s not just like, ‘Hey, they’re going to the park on a weekend, and we’re going with them.’ They’re getting out in a professional or semi-professional capacity.”
St. Denis Medical takes place in a small hospital in Oregon, where a quirky and often overwhelmed bunch of medical staff work tirelessly to care for their patients, all while balancing the chaos of their demanding jobs. The talented cast is made up of Wendi McLendon-Covey, Allison Tolman, Josh Lawson, Kahyun Kim, Mekki Leeper, David Alan Grier, Kaliko Kauahi, and others.
While plot details for season 2 are being kept under wraps at the moment, some of the cast have already expressed what they'd like to see for their characters in the upcoming episodes. Josh Lawson told NBC Insider that he'd like to see his Dr. Bruce character take on more complex medical emergencies and surgeries.
On the other hand, Mekki Leeper, who plays Matt, looks forward to seeing his character grow professionally. He told NBC Insider that fans will see Matt actually start to learn a few things in season 2. In addition, Allison Tolman, who portrays Alex, looks forward to interacting with more characters and seeing more guest stars appear on the show.
