5 shows to watch on TV this week, June 16–22 (and 2 to skip)

Once again, it's mostly about the reality shows on network TV this week. Here's what to watch and skip the week of Monday, June 16.

We enter another week, and it means finding something to watch. The broadcast networks continue with their summer programming, with FOX, NBC, and The CW being the ones to bring the most new and fresh content.

ABC and CBS continue with a lot of reruns, so most of them can be skipped without too much guilt. You’ve likely already seen the episodes, or you can watch them anytime you want on streaming platforms. However, we will get into a couple of notable skips for this week, as you’ll likely already own them!

American Ninja Warrior - Season 17

What to watch: American Ninja Warrior

Mondays are all about athleticism on NBC, with the third qualifier round of American Ninja Warrior. We’ll get to see another group of both veteran and rookie contestants, as they tackle various challenges and race against each other to make it through qualifiers.

The previous episode saw Katie Bone return after taking two years off due to an injury. The new episode tonight features someone similar, who was forced to take some time off due to an injured ankle! It’s so great to see injured athletes return to show what’s possible.

American Ninja Warrior airs on Monday at 8/7c on NBC.

What to watch: The Snake

Next up is one of the new competition shows to grace our screens. The Snake does things a little differently, bringing strategy, poker faces, manipulation, and much more as contestants attempt to win $100,000.

This is one of those shows that follows a strategy and a social game. They are some of the more entertaining reality shows, as you get a chance to figure out what you would do in that situation as well. Plus, there’s no doubt that you were seeing through bluffs in a way others couldn’t!

The Snake airs Tuesday at 9/8c on FOX.

What to skip: Jaws

NBC is turning to movies on Friday nights. At least, that’s the case for this week, which does feel a little off considering we’re used to Dateline! The network will air a movie that you’ve likely seen a thousand times, and you’ll probably own it on DVD. It’s all about Jaws.

So yes, you can safely skip this one. Isn’t this the movie that gave you nightmares of sharks and the beach as a child? You can stream it on Tubi for free or on AMC+ without ads, so you get to watch it uninterrupted.

What to watch: Destination X

While NBC has something to skip this week, it also has plenty to watch. The new reality show Destination X takes contestants around Europe on a bus. They need to figure out where X is, but it’s not the location they’re in.

Social games are changing with this latest episode. JaNa Craig (Love Island) and Peter Weber (The Bachelor) have joined the bus, and it’s clear that Tia has lied about meeting JaNa. That won’t just affect her relationship with the rest of the bus, but it’s already led to some trust issues with JaNa. It’s all about to get interesting.

Destination X airs on Tuesday at 10/9c on NBC.

What to watch: Sullivan’s Crossing

There are some scripted shows airing right now, and The CW has one that you will want to make sure you keep watching. During the new episode, Maggie and Cal have started to drift apart. Their problems are growing too big for them, and they can’t see a way forward.

The good thing about a tight-knit community is that people want to see them succeed. That means they’ll offer the support that the two need, but could this lead to too many cooks in the kitchen?

Sullivan’s Crossing airs on Wednesday at 8/7c on The CW.

Transplant - Season 3

What to watch: Transplant

If you’re into medical dramas, a new episode of Transplant airs on NBC this week. During the previous episode, Mags realized that she needed to go through with the transplant surgery. Well, now it’s time for the aftermath, but how does a doctor become a patient? Fortunately, she has friends who will help her take time out.

June isn’t just there for Mags, though. Novak is self-sabotaging, and June needs to snap him out of this if he wants to succeed in his career. The fact that she cares about his self-sabotaging habits speaks volumes about the way she respects him as a doctor.

Transplant airs on Thursday at 8/7c on NBC.

What to skip: Mean Girls

The other release to skip this week is another movie. The CW is sticking with movies on Sunday nights, but you’ve seen them before. And you likely own this one on DVD! Yes, it’s the 2004 version of Mean Girls, starring Lindsay Lohan and Rachel McAdams.

One of the annoying things about watching movies on TV is the ads. That’s not the way they were intended to be watched, so you’ll want to turn to streaming instead. You can watch this one on Paramount+.
