Lives and jobs can end up being on the line in Chicago Fire season finales, and that’s certainly looking like the case in the Chicago Fire season 13 finale. It’s all about Kelly Severide in the episode.
NBC has “spoiled” some of the upcoming finales by releasing the synopses of the episodes. The Chicago Fire season 13 finale is set to air on Wednesday, May 21, which times well with previous season finales. We go into this episode knowing that season 14 is officially happening, as all three One Chicago shows landed renewals just recently.
Now, eyes are on what to expect as we go into the final episode, and it looks like Severide is in danger. But it doesn’t sound like his life is on the line, which is a relief for the Stellaride fans out there.
Severide’s job is on the line in the Chicago Fire season 13 finale
The start of the synopsis tells us that “Severide puts his job on the line to help out one of their own.” It’s not clear who the “one of their own” is, but this could link to a couple of characters who are going to be leaving the series.
We know that both Ritter and Carver are exiting the show before season 14 begins, and it’s certainly plausible for Severide to put his job on the line for one of them. Carver makes the most sense considering Kidd and Carver’s friendly relationship. Despite Kidd not liking Carver at first due to Academy history, the two now get along.
Carver also has a history of alcoholism, and he is currently in AA meetings. Could he end up slipping and finding himself drunk on the job? Or could he do something off duty while drunk that puts his job on the line?
Alternatively, Severide’s decision to put his own job on the line could be linked to Damon, his half-brother. Damon recently found out that his lungs may have been damaged to the point where he can’t be a firefighter anymore. What are the chances of him doing something reckless, leading to Severide going out of his way to protect his brother?

Another person Severide would put his job on the line for is his wife, Stella Kidd. However, it doesn’t look like she’s the one who the “one of the own” is, as she has her own part in the synopsis. She wants to navigate “Natalie’s complicated relationship with her sister.”
This would suggest that she is off working on something more personal. It could be why she potentially asks Severide for help if Carver is in trouble. But that’s just me spit balling some ideas.
Chicago Fire airs on Wednesdays at 9/8c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
