You’ve seen him on The Bachelor and Traitors, but Peter Weber pushed to win $250,000 on Destination X. In the end, he came in second place in the competition.

Peter didn’t have the easiest time at the start of his entrance into the show. It started with 10 contestants, and that number was whittled down by three by the time Peter came in. That meant alliances had already been formed, but fortunately, there was one of the OGs left out in the cold.

That offered Peter a chance to form his own alliance, which would take him to the final. Was there ever a time he considered going against Rick? It turns out that he certainly had a soft spot for the guy.

Peter Weber explains why he remained loyal to Rick in Destination X

GeekSided: So, how much do you hate the Tower of London now?

Peter Weber: Oh yeah! I always thought that the whole Tower was called Big Ben. I didn’t realize it was the Queen Elizabeth Tower and Big Ben was only the Bell. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve now seen posters advertising London, and it’s always Big Ben, and the exact spot that I was sitting at for that reveal.

GS: If it makes you feel any better, I grew up in the UK, and it took me a long time into my teenage years to learn that Big Ben was the bell and not the name of the tower. Coming into Destination X three episodes in wasn’t going to be easy. What was it like with that group already established?

PW: There are two ways to look at it. I thought it was a pro and a con.

The obvious pro is that you’re much closer without having to risk leaving the game, but the con is actually bigger than the pro, in regards to now you’re the outsiders. You’ve got targets on your back. Why are they here? What are they doing? What do they know? What do they not know?

They already had opportunities for other alliances and partnerships and to gain trust with each other. That was tough.

I was lucky how it happened. Rick just seemed like he had been ostracized for whatever reason. He didn’t seem very close to anybody, and I just jumped on that opportunity. It worked out for us, which was great.

GS: Ally, Mack, and Shayne all said that they knew the alliance was happening, so did you tell that people were seeing those signs?

PW: I didn’t learn some stuff until watching this show. I wasn’t in the conversation. I thought we were pretty much under wraps longer than we were. There were times when I remembered hearing Ally and Kim talking. Kim had seen Rick and I talking, and she was onto us about something. I didn’t know she was actually onto us at that point.

It wasn’t until the yacht scene in Monaco and then I thought the cat was out of the bag. Rick and I were buddying up, and we were gonna make the proper move to help each other get to the next round. So, I was a little shocked. I didn’t realize Biggy didn’t realize there was an alliance when the time came for that final challenge in the Naval College.

GS: I’ll admit that I was surprised that it got to the Final Five and Final Four and you were still buddying up with Rick. He was your biggest competition, so I thought you’d see that threat and start working on getting him out. Why did you decide to keep working with Rick?

PW: Honest answer, gameplay aside, JaNa and I made this truce or promise with each other. It was shortly after Rick told us his whole story, and it just really touched us. Obviously, the money would have been incredible for anybody, but we just both felt that if there was anyone who could have really used it and it really mean something, it would have been Rick.

We just made a promise that we would do whatever we could do to get Rick to the end. At the end, let the best player win. I gave it my all. It was just the competitor in me, so I guess I made good on the promise.

GS: I love that considering the conversation you had about honesty on the bus. You stuck to it to the end.

PW: Yeah, I did.

GS: You had a bit of an advantage with your aviation skills, but is there any other research you did?

PW: I knew my strength was going to be navigation, calculating, and tracking the sun, right? Trying to do whatever I could with time and distance and velocity, and just figuring out the general vicinity. From this, I could use my knowledge from any type of crucial stuff I know or history about these cities.

Obviously, I used the social gameplay aspect of it because I’m not a historian. It was never going to be my strongest trait. I think studying aspects, it was more navigation, celestial navigation. I remember studying along the lines of latitude on the map, and I learn how I could use the North Star to give myself a guesstimation of the latitude of where I was in Europe. I used that a couple of times, but it wasn’t all available because we weren’t always having a clear view of the night sky.

I studied up on like license plates and currency and flags. Not that it came into play, just because they never made it that obvious. I wish I would have studied a little more about London.

GS: Well, throughout the game, it was always about placing an X on a city and not a monument. What was that like changing it up in the finale?

PW: Actually, it was a cool twist being able to explore the city. It was a similar vibe to the Venice episode, just being able to run around and explore and immerse yourself in it.

It was definitely a different twist to the game. The entire time, I’m kind of thinking, ‘Why would you have picked this landmark? Is there one that’s being left out? Is it one that I saw from the Eye?’ Of course, I was looking straight into Big Ben from the Eye. It was so close.

Your mind is going like a million miles an hour. There’s so much stress and pressure. It’s the final moment and you don’t want to lose. It’s kind of hard to keep your mind calm in that moment.

GS: What was your favorite challenge of the whole season?

PW: For me, there was a really special wow moment in Venice when we were kayaking through those crystal clear waters. It was really cold, but it was just the most stunning river, and it was one of those periods where we’re actually really away from all production. They had drones flying and were getting these cool shots, but it was just me and Biggy at that point.

We’re in this canoe, and the adrenaline is going, and I’m just having the time of my life. You know we’ve had some success in the game, and I’m feeling good about my chances. Then, I remember, I looked back and I just see what appeared to me at the time was the southern base of the Alps in all their glory. That was one of the coolest moments, and that was probably my favorite mission.

GS: As my last question, you’ve on The Bachelor, Traitors, and now Destination X. What’s next?

PW: Survivor is the one that comes to my mind. Something that I haven’t done. But the more I think about it, I really want to do Traitors again.

Destination X is now available to stream in full on Peacock.
