If you have been missing a certain Emmy Award-winning CBS sitcom since it came to an end in 2021, there are a few ways you can get your fix. We're talking about Mom, the comedy series from Chuck Lorre that starred Anna Faris and Allison Janney, as well as an amazing ensemble cast. The series focused on the healing power of found family when facing the challenge of sobriety.

All these years later, Mom remains a beloved sitcom among its fans. While we can now binge-watch all eight seasons on Netflix, it's not quite the same as getting hilarious new episodes. Speaking of Netflix, Lorre's latest sitcom output with comedian Leanne Morgan, which reteamed him with Mom vets Susan McMartin and Nick Bakay, arrived on the streamer on July 31. Quickly becoming a hit, Leanne's similarities make it the perfect option for filling the Mom void.

Not only does the new sitcom feature similar themes, but Leanne also co-stars Mom veteran Kristen Johnston, who plays the titular character's confident and chaotic sister Carol. In an interview with TV Line, Johnston admitted that she still receives messages from Mom fans who miss the sitcom and believes those viewers will adore her new show's kindred sisterhood spirit.

Leanne on Netflix is perfect for Mom fans

"I think there are women of a certain age are starved for this kind of stuff. When Mom was canceled, there was a group of feral women in my mentions on social media that were so mad that they canceled it, and so I think this fills that hole," Johnston told TV Line. "I love what it says about sisterhood so much because at the end of the day, they have each other, and they’re very different people, but they come together in the most important way."

Obviously, Leanne and Mom are not the same show at all, just as Johnston's characters Carol and Tammy are not the same. But they share a sense of humor about the realities of growing older and overcoming uphill battles that everyone can relate. Lorre agreed that the dramatic throughline of both sitcoms is starting over with the support of a loving family, whether that's a group of friends committed to lifting you up or your actual family who sticks around through thick and thin.

Leanne follows Morgan's fictional character Leanne Murphy, a mother and grandmother who's forced to start over when her husband of over 30 years ends their marriage. She picks herself with help from her sister as she navigates a future in uncharted territory. The series is an excellent return to form for sitcoms thanks to the sitcom being built around Morgan's singular comedy style with Lorre's unparalleled eye for crafting top-notch comedies.

The sitcom has a character named Mary, who's hilariously played by Glee alum Jayma Mays, that could have been written for Anna Faris. You can almost imagine Faris guest starring as the recurring foil character. Hopefully, should Leanne continue on with additional seasons, Lorre will add even more Mom stars to come play with Johnston and give Mom fans more than behind-the-scenes reunions. For now, make sure to add Leanne to your Netflix watch list if you need a Mom fix!
