CBS' 2025 fall TV schedule is full of great returning shows, and that includes Matlock season 2! We can't wait for more of the Kathy Bates series to be back on our screens. The legal drama was a welcome addition to the network, and television overall. While we wait, we'd love any updates about the second season. Right?
Well, this isn't confirmed yet, though when asked about season 2, showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman would actually like to see two very special guest stars join the series. Per TVLine, she's "on a mission" to get the real-life spouses of two of Matlock's main cast members on the show - Melanie Lynskey and Edwin Hodge.

As we all know by now who tune in to the show, Jason Ritter plays Julian Markston. He's married to fellow actress and Yellowjackets star, Lynskey. Honestly, this wouldn't be difficult to make happen since both are actors, it would be so fun to see! The two have also worked together before, and Ritter made a cameo on one of the actress' projects.
They first worked together on the movie The Big Ask in 2013, which is when sparks first started flying and their relationship started not long after. Then they worked together again in the films We'll Never Have Paris and The Intervention. Then Ritter came on in a cameo role on Lynskey's Hulu series, Candy.
He was actually supposed to appear in an episode of Yellowjackets season 2, but didn't for an unknown reason. Though they are still trying to make that happen. In the meantime, let's at least get Lynskey on Matlock season 2!
As for Hodge, he's married to the CBS series' Skye P. Marshall who plays Olympia Lawrence. The FBI: Most Wanted actor and Marshall got married in June 2024 and Bates was even at the wedding! They too have worked together before when they first started dating after each got a lead role on CBS' Good Sam. So this could definitely happen!
The Matlock showrunner didn't share what sort of roles she had in mind for Lynskey and Hodge, though they would be some sort of fun character. She also went on to say that she has "a lot of plans." Ok, well. At least the head of the show has got the gears turning in her head, and now that she's said it I need these two cameos to happen!
It would be such a missed opportunity if they don't. It's always fun to see two actors who are together interact onscreen as the characters they take on. Fingers crossed her wishes come to fruition.
Matlock season 2 premieres in fall 2025 on CBS.
